    Our client is looking for a Sr. Director of Business Development that will lead efforts to recruit and integrate lateral partner attorneys and groups consistent with the firm's growth priorities.

    This role will work closely with the firm's CEO, board of directors, department leadership and practice group leaders to drive strategic growth initiatives and identify new areas of opportunity including practices, industries and geographic markets.

    Specific duties include, but are not limited to, the following: Position responsibilities:


    • Manage the full lifecycle of lateral partner recruitment and integration, from the initial screening of a candidate submission to the creation and execution of a thorough integration plan


    • Establish and maintain strong working relationships with firm and department leadership, as well as each of the firm's practice group leaders and the partners in charge of each individual office, working collaboratively to identify recruiting strategies specific to certain geographic markets (including new markets) and individual practice groups, consistent with practice group and market-specific plans and goals


    • Cultivate close relationships with legal search firms across the country, serving as their trusted point of contact, negotiating terms of attorney placement agreements and meeting with them regularly to ensure they understand the firm's strategic objectives, including our commitment to hiring diverse talent


    • Monitor business, legal and technical periodicals and other appropriate sources to identify possible candidates to meet identified strategic needs and/or opportunistic prospects


    • Oversee the recruitment of each lateral candidate, including all pre-employment contingencies, to ensure compliance with the firm's risk management policies and procedures, including conflicts, background checks, and references


    • Draft extensive offer recommendation memos for circulation to the firm's compensation committee, board of directors and partnership, outlining the candidate's background and practice expertise, feedback from interview discussions, summary of calls with references, and the business case for bringing the new hire on board


    • Oversee transition of all lateral partner new hires and their teams of attorneys, coordinating the onboarding process with the appropriate administrative department leaders


    • Liaise with marketing and department leadership to develop an appropriate Communications/PR strategy for the new hire(s)


    • Collaborate with department and practice group leadership to develop and implement an integration strategy for each new hire, building in layers of accountability and metrics to measure success


    • Provide regular status reports on active candidates to firm leadership, and to others, as appropriate
    • Analyze trends and overall efforts and performance
    • Collaborate with other administrative department leaders to continually evaluate and refine our process of recruiting and integrating senior level talent


    • Oversee and monitor the annual lateral recruiting budget
    • Establish and maintain strong and constructive relationships with other firm departments, including Legal Talent, DE&I, IS, Marketing, Business Development, Accounting/Finance, Human Resources, and Professional Development


    • Serve as direct supervisor and mentor to direct reports
    • Provide day-to-day supervision of direct reports, ensure compliance with assigned work hours and monitor for compliance with all firm and department policies. Manage staffing coverage, review and process time logs/time off requests


    • Support business professional development and continued educational opportunities


    • In collaboration with immediate supervisor and CN HR, participate in hiring, performance appraisals, counseling, termination and other employee lifecycle events


    • All other duties as assigned or required Skills & experience:

    Required:


    • proficiency in the Microsoft Office suite, iManage and other firm applications


    • Ability to work extended and/or weekend hours, as required


    • Ability to travel, as required


    • Bachelor's degree
    • 8+ direct years' experience in a comparable role at a management level


    • Proven track record of performing elevated responsibilities within the current role providing intrinsic leadership & strategic direction to team


    • Prior experience with recruiting software

    Preferred:

    Previous experience managing lateral partner recruiting for an Am Law 100 firm or with reputable search firms


    • Depth of understanding of the lateral partner hiring market and industry trends


    • Established relationships with search firms who specialize in legal lateral partner recruitment


    • Supervisory management experience Competencies:

    • Ability to work under tight deadlines and handle multiple tasks while maintaining confidentiality the firm offers a competitive compensation and excellent benefits package and is committed to fair and equitable employment practices.

    The expected annual pay range for this position is $275,000 - $400,000. Please note that final offer amount will be dependent on geographic location, applicable experience and skillset of the candidate.
