Job Summary
The Huntsman Mental Health Foundation (
HMHF) seeks a qualified candidate to be the Senior Director for Corporate & Foundation Relations and Government Grants (Utah and Intermountain West States).
AVP
on collaborating with the Huntsman Mental Health Institute (
HMHI) and the University of Utah's Advancement Team, working positively and collegially with staff, board members, volunteers, donors, and the community.
AVP
at meetings and interact with individuals at the highest levels in public and private organizations on a local and regional basis.
Reporting directly to the
AVP, the Senior Director will initiate, foster, and manage Utah-specific and Intermountain West philanthropic efforts with corporate and foundation donors having multiple giving/partnership interests or requiring strategic, high-level coordination with
HMHI
while seeking public entities' support.
The Senior Director is responsible for supporting the AVP's efforts in planning and leading the grants team and program toward strengthening existing relationships and establishing long-term partnerships with corporations, foundations, and public entities on a Utah-specific and regional basis to fund the immediate and long-term goals and priorities of
HMHI
and our partner organizations.

We seek an experienced development professional with a proven history of corporate & foundation fundraising, as well as government/public grants, with a passion for mental health clinical care, research, and education.

Provides the expertise to
HMHF
and
HMHI
leadership to advance the Institute's priorities by identifying sources of support, proactively seeking opportunities to generate new proposals based on corporate and foundation guidelines and interests, and maintaining persuasive communication ties with corporate and foundation donors and prospects.
Creates and executes annual and long-term fundraising plans and directs/assists
CFR
staff in accomplishing assigned goals.
Serves
HMHF
leadership, board members, and
HMHI
units with their fundraising planning and priorities.
Partners regularly with the Office of Research and Sponsored Programs and other University offices that play critical roles in grants accounting.
Directs and leads team; recruits and develops staff; oversees performance reviews for staff annually.Works proactively with faculty & staff and, when appropriate, the corresponding development officer to identify new proposal opportunities and RFPs; assists faculty with proposal research, writing, and submissions as needed.
Problem-SolvingIncumbents will use independent judgment to resolve problems involving staff, board members, volunteers, the public, and our partners.
Incumbents in this position must use judgment and discretion when advising others of the executive's vision on policies and other issues.
Minimum QualificationsMaster's Degree or equivalent experience (One year of education is equivalent to two years of experience).
Four years of related experience.
Preferences
Demonstrated knowledge of methods and best practices related to successful grant fundraising.
Demonstrated experience with government grants at all levels.
Experience building strong relationships with c-suite leaders and executives in corporations and foundations.
Demonstrated ability to manage complex environments, people, and situations effectively.
Demonstrated ability to effectively manage a donor/prospect portfolio with multiple interests requiring advanced collaboration with campus and national partners.
Demonstrated proficiency in developing and executing complex funding strategies that are
CFR-centric and lead to major philanthropic support.
Must demonstrate the ability to communicate various highly technical, research-intensive topics effectively.
Strong writing skills with evidence of past successes applying for funding.
Prospecting experience, including familiarity with the use of iwave and LexisNexis.
Familiarity with funding and philanthropic sources in Utah and Intermountain West.
Experience developing annual or long-term strategic initiatives to advance
CFR
efforts and align with national best practices.
Demonstrated ability to lead the creation of fundraising strategies for unit priorities and collaborate with development officers and faculty on proposals.
Knowledge of MS Suite, Foundation Directory Online, and donor/prospect management databases ( CRM ).Experience effectively managing/coaching individual staff or teams preferred.
Experience with Mental Health fundraising/advocacy is preferred.
Knowledge of university operations and principles of nonprofit management.
