PUBLIC HEALTH EDUCATION EXPERIENCE

SelectHealth, Medicaid Manager for Social Services

Salt Lake City, UTMarch 2017 - present
  • Has the primary responsibility for the strategy, direction, and coordination of social services integration within SelectHealth.
  • Ensures the social determinants of health needs of enrollees are part of the model of care for Medicaid/CHIP enrollees alongside physical and behavioral health.
  • Refines and implements the annual social determinants of health, community health worker and facilitated enrollment work plan. Monitors social determinant of health integration projects and performance and ensures established targets and milestones are met.
  • Reviews and updates SelectHealth tools and resources for social determinants of health including: risk assessment tools and processes that can be integrated into SelectHealth operations to identify the social determinant needs of membership. 
  • Works closely with various departments and external stakeholders to develop, align and manage member needs using risk assessment tools and outreach interventions
  • Ensures coordination between SelectHealth and Intermountain to refine the social determinant of health model of care and establish and monitor metrics that measure impact.
  • Participates in cross functional team(s) across the organization to ensure consistent integration, collaboration, communication and governance related to social determinant of health programs. 
  • Collaborates with Intermountain representatives to identify community-based organizations where integrated social service models can be implemented and managed. Manages and evaluates pilot projects and align them with System and SelectHealth social determinant of health strategies. 
  • Conducts internal and external training and ensures employees and stakeholders understand the strategies, role, and value of social services integration. Works with SelectHealth training to modify or create organizational training.
  • Identifies and educates appropriate staff on social service resources from the plan, delivery system, and the community at large. Ensures processes exist to effectively link members to resources.
  • Works with marketing to ensure caregiver, provider, and member education materials, including the Medicaid/CHIP member handbook and other outreach communications incorporate information about relevant social determinant of health programs. Ensures accuracy of content and works collaboratively with compliance to ensure materials meet regulatory requirements. 
  • Monitors national and local social determinant of health integration models. Recommends best practices to the Medicaid Director for implementation. Presents proposals to key stakeholders. Works with others as necessary to implement strategies.
  • Interfaces with governmental personnel to research product related questions and makes development recommendations to the Medicaid Director to maintain and improve the Medicaid product.
  • Assists in the planning and implementation of new Medicaid/CHIP products and services.
  • Manages vendor relationships as applicable, including Community Health Worker Programs. Oversees program performance of contract terms. Evaluates new and alternate vendor opportunities.
  • Assists Medicaid Program Manager in supervising Medicaid program specialists in social determinant of health-related programs and projects.




 

SelectHealth, Public Relations Senior Specialist

  • Develops and executes community benefit and public relations strategies and initiatives that market SelectHealth’s products and services as well as enhances the company’s reputation among all customer segments and the community.  
  • Leads the execution of SelectHealth’s Community Sponsorships and Corporate Contributions policy and Community Benefit activities for SelectHealth in partnership with Intermountain regional partners, planners, health educators, government programs, Intermountain Central Office and community partners.  
  • Provides research and information to support annual budget development for Community Benefit programs and initiatives, and effectively track SelectHealth Community Benefit budgets in coordination with the Public and Community Relations Manager to support system and regional funding opportunities.
  • Collaborates with department managers, Executive Team, Intermountain Healthcare partners and key community organizations to identify and organize resources at the local community level. 
  • Leads community relations activities with non-profit, government, business and industry association key stakeholders within Utah and Idaho in alignment with SelectHealth Community Benefit priorities. 
  • Advocates on behalf of the low-income uninsured and underserved populations in discussions to ensure these populations are represented to administrative and other leadership teams. 
  • Evaluates documentation and interprets metrics on key tasks, projects, and assignments; monitors and tracks positive and negative publicity received by SelectHealth, and ensures programs comply with regulatory requirements.

  • Adjunct Professor in the Health Promotion and Education Department teaching the Healthy Lifestyles class, a pre-requisite for applying to all specialty tracks within the department.
