    training and exercise coordinator - Chicago, United States - Cook County Government

    Job Summary

    Under the direction of the Deputy Director of Training, collaborates with all relevant Cook County agencies to determine the training needs and priorities of those supported by the Department of Emergency Management and Regional Security (EMRS) through its training initiatives - focusing specifically on National Incident Management System (NIMS).Supervises; coordinates; plans; and oversees large-scale training exercisesinvolving multiple jurisdictions and locations.Coordinates, collaborates and may supervise internal and external departmental training personnel to include working with and potentially supervising other staff, both internal and external to the Department.Assists in the supervision, coordination, planning and oversight of the development and execution of a long-range; multi-year; multi-agency multi-jurisdictional trainingand exercise program.Performs other duties as assigned.

    Minimum Qualifications

    Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's Degree.

    OR

    ·Current/honorable discharge from military duty in a related Military Occupational Specialty (MOS).

    OR

    ·Five (5) years of full-time work experience in Emergency Management, Sworn Fire Service, Sworn Law Enforcement or Emergency Medical Services.

    PLUS

    ·Two (2) years of full-time work experience instructing, training and/or coordinating training programs in Emergency Management; the Fire Service; Law Enforcement; Emergency Medical Services; Public Health; or in the military in a related MOS.

    ·Must meet all training requirements as required by the EMRS, Cook County and Granting Agencies within one year of hire.

    Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Other Characteristics

    Thorough understanding of the legal and regulatory requirements and processes for federally funded grant training. Knowledge and proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office application programs including Word, Excel, Pivot Tables, PowerPoint, Outlook e-mail and calendar scheduling software. Skill organizing training programs in conformance with National Incident Management System (NIMS), local/state/federal regulations and operating procedures. Strong technical writing and organizational skills. Skill coordinating, planning and overseeing large scale exercises involving multiple jurisdictions and locations. Ability to work with external agencies in determining the training needs and priorities of those supported by EMRS through its training initiatives. Ability to coordinate training schedules, advertisements, registration, course funding invoice submission and course record keeping. Ability to schedule instructors, lectures, venues and training equipment as needed for training – inside and outside of the County. Ability to analyze course evaluation and attendance data and make recommendations for improvement.
