Metra's operations are overseen by the Deputy Executive Director, Operations, who provides executive direction and guidance to the chief officers of the Engineering, Mechanical and Transportation departments as well as Labor Relations, Training and Certification and Operations Training.

The division also provides executive oversight and direction to contract carriers (BNSF and Union Pacific) to ensure that rail operations are consistent with Metra's standards and practices.


Reporting to the Sr Director, Workforce Training and Certification, this position performs a variety of administrative and office management support functions for the Workforce Training and Certification department.

Assists in the department's procurement process for travel, training, office supplies, and related purchases. Works with vendor and handles all the record retention related to Training and Certification materials. Works with contract carriers to set up Metra required training programs such as CPR and AED.

Coordinates and monitors the flow of multiple Training and Certification assignments and projects such as PTC Training Plans and Moodle E-Learning Systems.

Coordinates department calendar and meetings. Schedules travel arrangements and tracks assigned automobile mileage. Formats training manuals and materials to meet Metra's training standard. Maintains attendance, verification records, and order materials needed for training classes and courses. Perform other related duties as assigned to meet the ongoing needs of the organization.


Job Requirements

  • An Associate's degree in Office Administration or related discipline, or in lieu of degree, any combination of education and/or work experience equal to two (2) years.
  • In addition to #1 above, must have two (2) years of office administration experience.
  • Must be able to type 50 wpm.
  • Good knowledge of office management practices.
  • Good knowledge of proper grammar.
  • Strong administrative skills necessary to maintain accurate records and support office functions.
  • Good verbal and written and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency using Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Ability to exercise good judgment and discretion.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Ability to prioritize and work on multiple projects simultaneously.
