    Job Description and Duties


    The Legal Affairs Office provides legal support to the Secretary of State's office (SOS) relating to all functions of the agency.

    This may include legal issues involving elections, businesses, political campaigning, legislative advocacy, and historical treasures. The duties are varied and interesting. A Training and Development Assignment will be considered for Secretary of State candidates. Successful T&D candidates may be appointed to the classification at the end of the assignment.


    Under the general direction of the Supervising Attorney, the Staff Services Analyst performs complex analytical work and provides consultative services in a variety of administrative functions.

    Duties include coordinating responses to division records requests, correspondence, and subpoenas.

    Analysts will also provide technical assistance and related administrative assistance to agency staff in a variety of areas including but not limited to business entity filings, elections investigations, and procurement.


    Desirable Qualifications:

    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
    • Demonstrates consistent attention to detail and exceptional organization skills.
    • Experience creating, reviewing, and editing written reports.
    • Experience with handling sensitive and/or confidential information.
    • Ability to review and analyze programs and policies and make appropriate recommendations.
    • Ability to interpret and apply laws and regulations to specific situations.
    • Demonstrated ability to work independently with excellent follow-through on tasks and assignments.
    • Ability to handle changing priorities, and work under pressure within time constraints.
    • Knowledge and proficiency in Microsoft Office software and basic computer programs (Word, Excel, Power Point, Adobe, etc.).
    • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with agency personnel or stakeholders and display excellent customer service skills.
