- Provides patient-facing services as a licensed physician. Maintains a schedule of patient appointments; sees patients according to assigned scheduling template; performs assessments/examinations to determine presence of health disorders and establish accurate diagnoses; prescribes medications; orders lab and other diagnostic tests/imaging, as needed; analyzes patient test results and determines appropriate follow-up; performs minor office-based surgical procedures based upon privileging; provides preventative care and health maintenance counseling and services. Maintains thorough, timely and accurate documentation in each patient's electronic health record. Completes and maintains credentialing and privileging. [MPP2]
- Assists with Addiction Medicine program development, implementation, measurement and evaluation to ensure that patients receive the highest quality integrated care. Assists in evaluation of budgets and/or programmatic costs, as applicable.
- Works closely with Behavioral Health leadership and the Alcohol and Other Drugs counseling team to support co-management of patients with substance use disorder. This may include organizing shared educational sessions, treatment protocols, systems for coordinated scheduling, consultation and referral.
- Works closely with VHC clinicians to support co-management of patients with substance use disorder and ensure best practices.
- Provides clinic/staff education regarding substance use-related topics as needed.
- Attends and participates in assigned operational and leadership meetings to support high-quality healthcare delivery and determine strategic priorities.
- Participates as a clinician-leader in quality assurance/improvement meetings and processes to ensure quality care is provided to patients.
- Collaboratively creates, edits, and maintains policies, procedures, and protocols that relate to clinical care.
- Ensures compliance with federal, state, and local standards in terms of clinical and operational regulations.
- On-time completion of assigned training and policies.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Medical Doctor or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine, with a California license in good standing.
- Board Certification in Psychiatry, Family Medicine or Internal Medicine.
- Current DEA license.
- At least 10 years of leadership in any setting or related years of experience.
- At least 10 years as a clinician treating substance use disorders or related experience.
- Board certified or board eligible in addiction medicine, preferred.

Summary
The Addiction Medicine Program Lead Part-Time 8hours is a clinician-leader in the Health Center who provides direct patient care, supports program development, and serves as a clinician voice in operational and administrative processes. The Addiction Medicine Program Lead is focused on providing subject matter expertise to our clinical team. Areas of expertise include prevention, evaluation, diagnosis, treatment, and recovery of persons with the disease of addiction, of those with substance-related health conditions, and of people who show unhealthy use of substances, including nicotine, alcohol, prescription medications, and other licit and illicit drugs. The Addiction Medicine Program Lead collaborates with clinic leadership, primary care clinicians and behavioral health clinicians to provide integrated, comprehensive care for substance use disorders and related conditions. The role participates in building of new programs; enhancing existing services; collaboratively creating policies, procedures, and workflows; assuring the delivery of high-quality patient care and attending to the financial health of the Health Center.
