Sharon Sherman

I am social science educator credentialed in California.  I have my Bachelor's degree in Sociology and Chinese, and my Master's in Education.  I have spent the last two years teaching middle school history and geography at a private international school in Casablanca, Morocco.  The school follows American standards as well as the IB program.  I am an enthusiastic and energetic educator who prioritizes creativity and critical thinking in the classroom in addition to building strong community and character.  I believe in inspiring students to apply their historical knowledge in ways that are meaningful both inside and outside of the classroom, and my teaching philosophy focuses on the belief that education truly can and should be a life-changing experience for everyone.

I have been teaching full time for two years, and was a student teacher and volunteer assistant before that.  I have experience working with kids as young as 6 months (in a day care) up to the 10th grade.  For the last two years I was the lead 6th and 7th grade social science teacher.  I was in charge up helping create new curriculum, lessons, and testing standards that adhere to the IB program and American state standards.  I also taught a writing class, advisory, and investigations class during my time there.  In addition, I have gained considerable experience working with ESL students as well as students with IEPs and 504s.

I attended UC Santa Barbara from 2016-2021.  I received a Bachelor's in both Sociology and Chinese, and a minor in Education.  I later applied to the Gevirtz School off Education and received my Master's in Education and California teaching credential for social sciences.
