JILL ORTMAN

I am an academic consultant in Manhattan helping young students applying to college. I place a high value on developing close relationships with the students and families I counsel and try to make the entire college search and application process as painless as possible. Having spent more than thirteen years working with New York families, I’m used to working with high anxiety  parents as well as anxious and overwhelmed teens. I pride myself in being able to deal with these parents while providing student-centered guidance. I also believe strongly that increasing access to a college education should be at the forefront of every college counselor’s agenda. I am looking for a way to reach more students by to working virtually.

I have been a college counselor for more than 24 years, working at two private institutions in Quito, Ecuador and the Dwight School in New York City, and as an independent college counselor. My goal is always to help students find the right schools and to guide families through the entire college selection and application process in a way that reduces stress and empowers young adults.

I have a BA and MA from Brown University and a Master in Education from Boston University.
