    Summary

    The Training Coordinator for Emergency Medical Services is responsible for the presentation and coordination of instructional training programs and practical EMS training programs on behalf of the Department of Emergency Services.

    Support the Mission of the Department of Emergency Services; To promote and assist in providing safety and security to Chester County citizens and visitors so they can work, live, and grow in a healthy and safe community.

    This position requires availability 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year.

    This job requires the following documents to be obtained, reviewed as acceptable by the supervisor: PA Child Abuse, re-obtained every five years and a PA Criminal History and FBI Criminal History done every two years.

    This is an Essential Employee position. Essential employees are obligated to report to work as scheduled or remain at work during emergencies.

    Following is the Duty Statement for Essential Employees:"Carries out essential job functions or assigned emergency duties which may involve assignments within the Emergency Operations Center, deployment to a field location to participate in emergency management activities, or other duties as required during periods of emergency. If received, emergency assignments may be performed under adverse conditions and continue for periods ranging from a few hours to several weeks."

    Essential Duties
    • Coordinate and provide a variety of appropriate EMS related educational programs on behalf of the Department, to EMS providers and other health care professionals.
    • Disseminate lesson plans for EMS educational programs based on current National EMS Education Standards and Pennsylvania Statewide EMS Treatment Protocols,
    • Deliver EMS educational programs including both didactic and psychomotor content.
    • Supervise the EMS instructors to ensure delivery of high quality, efficient and professional training. Track progress and use measurable data to generate reports.
    • Report on training site performance to ensure appropriate instructional use, upkeep and care of resources and equipment.
    • Enforce training goals, policies, and procedures by utilizing developed criteria.
    • Identify performance improvement needs and utilize interventions for employees.
    • Attend classes and continuing education courses to maintain required certifications.
    • Assign courses to facilitators/trainers, Provide training, resources, and mentorship.
    • Remain current with evolving trends in EMS and maintain knowledge and understanding of available offerings and courses.
    • Assist with Emergency Operations Center (EOC) activations and drills.
    • Perform other duties, tasks, and special projects, as assigned.
    Qualifications/Preferred Skills, Knowledge & Experience
    • Associate degree from an accredited college or university or equivalent training and experience.
    • Three to four years of active EMS experience, with 2 years concurrent experience as an instructor for emergency medical services.
    • Knowledge of the National EMS Education Standards, Pennsylvania's EMS Systems Act, and pertinent legislation and regulation, Pennsylvania's Statewide EMS Protocols, and other applicable EMS standards/guidelines.
    • Pennsylvania EMS-Instructor certification.
    • Ability to interface effectively with all levels of State, County, and Local government.
    • Excellent verbal and written communication and customer services skills.
    • Ability to manage and resolve recurring problems.
    • Excellent presentation and evaluation skills.
    • Knowledge and skill with standard office equipment (copier, calculator, fax, etc.).
    • Ability to maintain confidential information and handle confidential matters.
    • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and proceed with objectives.
    • Ability to work as part of a team.
    • Intermediate skill to use a personal computer and various software packages.
    • A valid driver's license is required.
    Preferred Skills, Knowledge & Experience:
    • National Association of EMS Educators membership.
    • Emergency Care & Safety Institute Instructor credential.
    • Knowledge of Chester County EMS systems.
    • Strong professional ethics.
    • Able to use common sense understanding how to carry out written or verbal instructions.
    • Strong time management skills.
    • Flexibility in scheduling.
    • Accurate and detail oriented.
    • Advanced organizational skills.
    • Knowledge and understanding of Chester County policies and procedures.
    • Leadership training (minimal of 24 hours).
    • Management training (minimal of 24 hours).

    Computer Skills:
    To perform this job successfully, an individual should have:
    • Intermediate Microsoft Office skills

    • Intermediate to Advanced Internet knowledge and skills (for research purposes)
    Physical Demands:
    While performing the duties of this position, the employee is frequently required to stand, sit, and talk or hear. Periodically, the employee will need to stand, walk, and drive a vehicle. Occasionally, the employee will need to reach or work with arms above shoulder height; bend, twist or rotate at the waist; kneel, stoop, crouch, or squat; climb stairs; push, lift or carry items up to 75 lbs., and work with machinery. On rare occasions the employee will need to work with an uncommon level of noise.

    The special vision requirements listed for this position are:
    • Close vision (clear vision at 20 inches or less) - office work.
    • Distance vision (clear vision at 20 feet or more) - training grounds.
    • Color vision (ability to identify and distinguish colors)
    • Peripheral vision (ability to observe an area that can be seen up and down or to the left and right while eyes are fixed on a given point) - for safety while working during training or at an incident scene.
    Work Environment:
    • The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet to moderate.
    • Will work at various remote locations 25% of the time under various conditions.
    • May be required to work in all weather conditions, producing and simulating real life emergency scenarios to prepare emergency responders.
    Other:
    • Ability to work extended hours during emergencies.
    • Ability to drive to remote locations.
    • Ability to work weekends and/or evening assignments (to provide or supervise training).
