***: The Climate and Culture Coordinator will play a critical role in improving school climate by ensuring the school creates and maintains a positive learning environment and a culture of high expectations. The Coordinator will support the implementation of the Playworks program, and work with the Recess coaches to model the expectations of recess, lead the way for impact through play at school, and support all staff and students during recess.


CULTURE & CLIMATE COORDINATOR ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Works closely with the Building Principal, Assistant Principal, School Leadership Team, and Parent Liaisons implementing the plan for improved climate and culture;
  • Along with the Principal, establishes an integrated system of intervention (known by all school staff) that promotes health development and prevents problems, and responds to problems as early as feasible;
  • Regularly surveys students, staff, parents and community members regarding school climate;
  • Evaluates school policies to determine if they are supportive of a comprehensive system that encourages students to be engaged (feeling a sense of belonging, connectedness and competency);
  • Model Playworks core values, program implementation, group management, and rapport building strategies for students and school staff;
  • Attends monthly program support meetings for coaching, feedback, and best practice sharing;
  • Attends Playworks trainings which may take place during or out of school time;
  • Meets weekly with Recess Coaches for program checkin;
  • Supports grant reporting (semiannual);
  • Provides and coordinates professional development for teachers on best practices related to positive Climate and Culture within schools;
  • Accesses classrooms to gather data on best practices for culture and climate trends;
  • Works with school staff in leading the effective implementation and continuous improvement of PBIS, school wide program designed to improve climate and culture;
  • Works collaboratively with staff to develop a strategic implementation plan for improving climate and culture;
  • Make disciplinary referrals to principal regarding infractions of the student code of conduct;
  • Participate as needed in student disciplinary meetings, including expulsion hearings.

QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS REQUIRED (Minimum education and experience needed to perform the job adequately)

  • High School Diploma, Bachelor's Degree preferred;
  • One-Three (13) years' experience working with lowincome students and families in an urban educational setting;
  • Strong interpersonal skills to effectively work with people of diverse cultural backgrounds, levels of education, economic resources, and experience;
  • Highly focused and resultsoriented in supporting complex, deadlinedriven operations; able to identify goals and priorities to resolve issues in initial stages.

This position is primarily sedentary in the office and may require some physical activity during recess and class game time, including, bending and lifting.
