    Job DescriptionSalary:

    The Assistant Manager of International Student Services oversees the international student services' operations. They provide holistic immigration, academic, professional, personal, and cultural services for all students at George Mason University Korea (Mason Korea). In collaboration with the main campus in Fairfax, Virginia, they provide support to Mason Korea students who are preparing for their required year at the main campus with immigration and transition. They also support international students studying at Mason Korea as a direct admit or study abroad with their immigration process and transition to Mason Korea. They coordinate programs, cultural experiences, and lead the University in creating a welcoming and inclusive community for all international students. They also share in the immigration advising responsibilities, maintaining records, and managing important data and processes.

    The Assistant Manager will work within the team of University Life and directly report to the Associate Dean of University Life. The pay scale of the position is from 51,000,000 KRW to 56,000,000 KRW per year based on previous working experiences.

    45% International Student Support

    • Serve as a primary contact for international students to build relationships that connect them with university services, on-campus resources, and programs necessary for success in the classroom and beyond.
    • Serve as a designated school official for Korean student visa (D-2). This responsibility requires the Assistant Manager to issue the Certificates of Admission to prospective international students in accordance with the Korean immigration guidelines, routinely update information in the Korean immigration portal, supply information to students regarding the Korean student visa application and advise students on various immigration compliance processes.
    • Provide individualized visa process guidelines based on student needs and/or circumstances.
    • Maintain detailed records of international student databases at Mason Korea and supply data needed when requested by Government Affairs, Academic Affairs, etc.
    • Attend university staff workshops hosted by the Korea Immigration Office and Ministry of Justice to receive up-to-date information about immigration compliance.
    • Communicate regularly with the international students on the relevant and important information about housing options, Korean National Health Insurance, and life in Korea.

    30% Fairfax Campus Transition

    • Serve as the primary contact to students transitioning to the Fairfax campus to inform and advocate for their needs.
    • Advise students on various processes required for the transition to Fairfax campus.
    • Collaborate with the Office of International Programs and Services at Fairfax to provide information sessions, orientations and welcome activities for MK students.
    • Serve as a liaison to Mason Korea students and connect them to various offices in Fairfax for resources and support.
    • Create and deliver intercultural programs, social, and co-curricular opportunities to ease their transition to the Fairfax campus.

    25% ADMINISTRATIVE

    • Coordinate, prepare and present information sessions to international students and Mason Korea students.
    • Maintain relationships with the Global Education Office in Fairfax to support students studying abroad and identify faculty-led programs opportunities at Mason Korea.
    • Develop and distribute materials on the opportunities to study at Mason Korea with a desire to increase the number of study abroad students from various universities.
    • Serve as a University Life primary contact for short term academic programs at Mason Korea.
    • Prepare and maintain documents to establish partnerships with various departments, programs and institutions.
    • Maintain international services and other relevant webpage at Mason Korea.
    • Provide budget oversight and management of the international services programs.
    • Develop and deliver cross-cultural learning programs for both international and domestic students.
    • Co-chair the International Week at Mason Korea.
    • Participate and contribute to broader University Life programs, events and initiatives, including new student welcome activities, family orientation, Mason Day, etc.
    • Work on various campus committees and other special assignments as assigned by the administration or the supervisor.

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

    • Bachelor's degree
    • High level of writing, speaking, and oral English and Korean communication skills
    • 5 years of experiences in international student support or relevant experiences
    • Familiar with international student visa process in Korea

    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

    • Master's degree in higher education, counseling or related field preferred
    • Experience mentoring and advising students
    • Experience developing academic, social, or cultural programs in an international education setting

    • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to effectively communicate with a wide range of individuals and constituencies
    • Strong administrative, management, and organization skills
    • Ability to collaborate with colleagues from various offices in multiple continents
    • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects independently and work in an environment with regular interruptions
    • Ability to provide analysis and alternative solutions
    • Ability to handle multiple tasks and priorities
    • Proficient with operating a computer and various supporting software packages (i.e., Microsoft Office Suite, Google Calendar, Zoom)

    WORK ENVIORNMENT

    • Require flexible hours, including occasional evening and weekend hours, with prior notice
    • Work may require some physical exertion (I.e., standing, lifting, moving, etc.)
    • Some work may be completed outside
