    The Role: IT/Software Development Manager

    Location: Chicago, IL

Our client is on the lookout for an IT leader who can spearhead our tech transformation and help us achieve our ambitious goals.

    The Role

As the IT/Software Development Manager, you'll report directly to the CEO and lead the IT function from the Chicago office. Get ready to roll up your sleeves and drive impactful change.

    Your Mission:

    At the heart of this role is leading our IT function and executing the corporate IT strategy. You'll delve into daily operations, address system challenges head-on, and collaborate with stakeholders to develop and implement groundbreaking solutions. From off-the-shelf tools to custom development, you'll be involved in every aspect. If you're ready to shake things up, this role is for you.

    Responsibilities

    Strategic IT Leadership

    • Lead the development and execution of our IT strategy and roadmap, ensuring transparency and alignment across the organization.
    • Define clear success metrics aligned with business goals, including scalable IT infrastructure to support 5X revenue growth.
    • Establish a structured IT department equipped to support company growth and innovation.

    Technical Expertise and Project Management

    • Own all IT systems and hardware, ensuring smooth operation and proactive resolution of issues.
    • Drive the implementation of new applications and updates, leveraging a "Reuse - buy - build" approach based on business needs and feasibility assessments.
    • Apply knowledge of PHP and .Net platform development, including object-oriented programming and MVC frameworks, to develop custom applications and enhance existing systems.
    • Lead and manage small development teams and demonstrate a desire to gain more experience managing IT projects and implementations.
    • Demonstrate proficiency in deploying and managing applications on AWS infrastructure, with a strong understanding of cloud architecture principles, microservices, and web APIs.
    • Collaborate closely with business stakeholders to gather requirements, prioritize projects, and deliver impactful solutions.
    • Take ownership of key projects, such as system architecture updates, data warehouse implementation, and ERP management, ensuring successful execution within specified timelines and budgets.
    • Apply hands-on experience in AWS cloud services, data modeling, and SQL to optimize database performance and design efficient schemas.
    • Utilize expertise in writing complex SQL queries, stored procedures, and triggers to retrieve and manipulate data efficiently.
    • Leverage ERP experience to manage the company's ERP needs, including process improvements, training, and system enhancements.

    Communication and Empowerment

    • Act as the primary liaison between IT and business teams, facilitating effective communication and collaboration.
    • Provide comprehensive training and support to ensure user proficiency with IT systems and tools.
    • Foster a culture of empowerment, where users are actively involved in the innovation process and their feedback shapes IT solutions.
    • Communicate IT updates, priorities, and progress to stakeholders at all levels in a clear and non-technical manner.

    Qualifications

    • A bachelor's degree in IT or related field
    • 5-10 years of software development experience, including hands-on expertise in AWS cloud services, data modeling, SQL, and ERP systems
    • 1-3 years of IT management experience, preferably in a dynamic, growth-oriented environment.
    • Strong communication skills, with the ability to translate technical concepts into business-friendly language and vice versa.
    • Proven track record of driving IT initiatives, managing projects, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to achieve business objectives.
    • Worked for an inventory-based business.
    • Has built custom applications and understands the importance of balancing building new solutions with leveraging existing tested ones.

    Preferred Qualifications:

    • AWS certification (e.g., AWS Certified Solutions Architect, AWS Certified Developer).
    • Familiarity with Microsoft Business Central and Amazon Seller APIs.
    • MBA or experience in a business-related role.
    • Experience working in both small and large companies, with a preference for candidates who have built out IT departments or functions in smaller organizations.
