Known for its rigorous academic and social science research and explicit focus on equity and prevention, CCR has garnered attention for translating public health science into real time systems and policy change by centering community voices, integrating service delivery, and building political will for change.
Housed within the Milken Institute School of Public Health at the George Washington University, CCR is widely known as a trusted thought partner and public health innovator among major foundations, national public health organizations, and federal public health leaders.
The Policy Director, CCR will report to the Director of the Center for Community Resilience.
In this role the Policy Director, CCR provides strategic policy guidance and is responsible for government affairs coordination that advances the Center's mission and goals with federal, state, and local government levels as well as federal and state agencies.
The CCR network comprises more than 15 teams across the country and the Policy Director oversees advocacy strategies and technical assistance to support the national network.
Work may involve travel and overnight stays at least 3-4 times a year.Policy Research & Development
Works with the Policy Lab team to develop policy briefs based on qualitative and quantitative research from local health departments participating in the Resilience Catalysts in Public Health initiatives.
Leads technical assistance in policy and advocacy activities for CCR coalition members and local health departments.Manages Policy Lab staff and student researchers.
Context Research & Analysis
Provides historical and contextual research to support policy briefs and communication tools.
Tracks legislation and apprise CCR senior team of pertinent legislative issues, external factors, and policy opportunities that could impact the CCR policy agenda.
Develops agendas for Congressional briefings, including partnerships and scheduling.Meets with lawmakers and community stakeholders on a regular basis.
Develops collateral and briefing documents for meetings with lawmakers.
Oversees development of presentation materials (including PowerPoint) for stakeholder meetings.
Leads development of learning sessions and webinars for national network.
Leads advocacy training sessions for national network.
Qualified candidates will hold a Master's degree plus 5 years of experience or a PhD plus 2 years of experience in a related discipline to include at least 2 years of research and/or college level teaching in a field basic to the work to be performed.
Demonstrated knowledge of public policy and research, procedures and federal, state or local policy and legislative process.
Five years+ of public policy, advocacy, and public health research.
Ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community.
Demonstrated experience in a position requiring the use of analytical skills, including the ability to organize, interpret and present data in a clear and concise fashion.
Self-motivated and able to multi-task, set priorities, work independently and manage multiple deadlines.Technical expertise, including familiarity working with Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Canva and BaseCamp.
Proficient understanding of local, state and federal legislative and executive process, including budget and appropriations processes; Demonstrated leadership in a research/policy initiative with in-depth knowledge of related federal/state policy to public health and equity.
