Job Description:

Summary:


The Disability Access Advisor provides disability accommodations and support to the full range of students accessing Disability Support services in compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act Amendment Act of 2008, Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, The Fair Housing Act and other applicable laws.

This position is responsible for independently engaging in the deliberative process necessary for determining reasonable accommodations for students with disabilities and working with instructors and staff to implement students approved academic/residential adjustments, reasonable accommodations and access to auxiliary aids and services.

This process includes the review of documentation submitted in support of a student's request.

As a member of the documentation review team, the Disability Access Advisor consults on complex cases and stays abreast of current issues related to disability support.

Supervisory Organization:


The position reports to the Associate Director, Disability Support, along with three other Disability Access Advisors, a Senior Disability Access Advisor and an ASAC Operations Coordinator.

This position works collaboratively under limited supervision.


Essential Functions:

  • Direct Student Service: Directly responsible for determining reasonable accommodations for students with accommodation requests. Reviews clinical documentation, meets individually with students with disabilities engaging in the deliberative process necessary to make reasonable accommodations decisions. Provides specialized support for students with disabilities, including individual counseling to address the impact of the disability on academic performance, review of disability documentation to determine appropriate academic/residential accommodations, and assistance with accessing accommodations. Provides academic support to students. Coordinates academic and disability support with ASAC colleagues and with campus partners. Makes appropriate referrals
  • Outreach and Consultation: Provides consultation and professional development for team on topics of expertise. Consults on student issues and disabilities with faculty, academic advisors, other campus colleagues, and families/guardians. Disseminates information on academic support topics and center services. Participates in office and university events; creates publicity in collaboration with other Disability Team members.
  • Administration/Personnel: Maintains case notes using case management system. Collaborates with team and other campus units on programming and service enhancements related to specific student populations. Engages in professional development activities to expand skillset and knowledge of designated populations; serves on university committees, as appropriate. Collects and evaluates data.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work:

  • Full-Time.
  • This is a unioneligible position.

Salary Range:
- $50,000-53,000/year, commensurate with experience.


Required Education and Experience:

  • Master's degree in education, student development, counseling, related field, or equivalent in education, training and experience required.
  • Three years of relevant professional experience. Excellent verbal, writing, and presentation skills.

Other Skills and Abilities Preferred:

  • Higher education experience.
  • Familiarity with the developmental issues of college students.
  • Experience working with disabilities and the accommodation process, including relevant disability laws.
  • Experience working with a diverse student population.
  • Experience in providing academic support services.
  • Experience advocating for student populations.
  • Familiarity with disability documentation including psychoeducational reports.
