The O'Neill Institute for National and Global Health Law at Georgetown University Law Center is seeking an associate to support the Health Policy and the Law Initiative.

The associate will support the work of the Health Policy and the Law Initiative by providing legal technical assistance to policymakers, partners, and other stakeholders on health policy issues, especially access to health coverage, affordability, transparency, and equity.

The Health Policy and the Law Initiative focuses on a range of active health policy legal issues and developments, including recent major reforms to the health care system following the implementation of the Affordable Care Act, No Surprises Act, and the Medicare drug negotiation program enacted under the Inflation Reduction Act.


The associate's work will include conducting research, tracking legal trends, writing about ongoing legal developments, educating stakeholders, and communicating about the role that litigation and the courts play in health policy.


Primary Responsibilities:


  • Research and track litigation related to health policy
  • Identify issues and/or policy areas to explore; collect and analyze information and report findings and propose new ideas
  • Perform legal research, analysis, project organization, and external engagement on assigned topics with occasional support from, and supervision of, research assistants
  • Coordinate with external partners, including donor organizations, and internal stakeholders of the institute, including Georgetown University faculty and staff, to accomplish project and program goals. Projects will involve legal and policy writing and presentations, as well as participation in related meetings and events
  • Attend and report on events relevant to the assigned research topics and/or other projects at the Institute
  • Network with internal and external stakeholders, representing the institute's projects and programs and the project associate's area of expertise. generate reports and provides data to management team as needed
  • Support institute fundraising efforts by assisting in the development of new and ongoing research projects and proposals

Who Are We Looking For?

  • J.D. required
  • Experience with health law and/or policy required
  • Familiarity with domestic health law topics, such as private health insurance, prescription drug pricing, and anticompetitive practices, among other areas
  • Academic and working knowledge of research topics related to health law
  • Excellent research and legal writing skills required
  • Ability to operate professionally and maturely in interactions with academic and other stakeholders required
  • Ability to work well as part of a small team and supervise student work in a professional manner also required
