    The Jewish Federation of San Diego County (JFSD) seeks a strategic, innovative, team-oriented and experienced Chief Advancement Officer.

    For more than 85 years Federation has worked to create a vibrant, caring, connected and enduring Jewish Community by strengthening Jewish identity, caring for Jews in need and fostering deep connections with Israel and Jews around the world.     The Position:
    The Chief Advancement Officer (CAO) will lead strategy for and oversee identifying, cultivating, soliciting and stewarding annual fundraising, major and planned gifts from donors, lay leaders, corporations and foundations.

    The CAO at JFSD will need a deep passion for philanthropy that is matched by strong knowledge of and experience in development. Strategic thinking and creativity are essential skills to shape and implement a long-term plan for JFSD's growth in reach, revenue, and impact. As a partner to the CEO and Senior Management Team, a positive, solution-oriented mindset and management experience will be key to building Federation's visibility and centrality in Jewish philanthropy in San Diego.

    The CAO will report to the President and CEO and will work in close partnership with all members of the Senior Management Team in shaping organizational strategy with the goal of growing engagement, leadership and philanthropy among all major donors to Federation. The CAO will be a crucial voice, communicating JFSD's Strategic Priorities and impact to donors and potential donors to drive both increased philanthropy and long-term involvement in the work of Federation.

    RESPONSIBILITIES:
    The CAO's primary responsibilities will include:

    1) Shaping and implementing JFSD's philanthropic strategies, capabilities and operational infrastructure with approaches and solutions that put the donor first

    2) Planning and implementing annual fundraising
    3) Driving growth internally and externally
    4) Partnering with the Community Planning team to create and implement a leadership development strategy that positions JFSD for long-term success

    High-level goals within these areas include:

    • Grow JFSD's donor base in all segments; community campaign (under $1000), mid-level ($1000-10,000), major donors ($10,000 and up), legacy donors and corporate sponsors
    • Partner with CEO, Development Director and senior lay leaders to develop and implement strategies to meet short- and long-term goals of Federation's overall major gift strategy
    • Increase revenue per donor by engaging donors and potential donors more deeply with our strategic priorities (leadership, community security, antisemitism, people-to-people connections with Israel and overseas) and our continuing work
    • Forge strong relationships with and steward Federation leadership, major donors, and potential major donors; build an understanding of their interests, passions and values; and encourage new and increased participation in Federation's supplemental as well as overall campaigns
    • Work collaboratively across the organization to ensure donor operations are efficient and effective
    • Create long-term strategy to achieve significant growth in total FRD
    • Supervise a team of development and data service professionals and consultants
    • Lead planning and execution of yearly fundraising, with a plan to increase from the current 5.3 million in annual campaign revenue and close to $15 million in total financial resource development (FRD) through philanthropy, grants, underwriting, sponsorship, endowment, pass-through, etc.
    • Effectively communicate JFSD Strategic Priorities and impact to drive increased philanthropy and engagement in Federation work
    • Implement a data-driven strategy to segment prospects leading to deeper and more meaningful engagement with JFSD
    • Manage a portfolio of Major and Women's Philanthropy donors, and secure gifts through face-to-face solicitations, phone calls and by working with Board, Women's Philanthropy

    Board Ambassadors, and volunteer leadership

    • Develop engagement, cultivation and solicitation plans for major donors, $5000+ WP donors and other prospects as assigned, including securing legacy commitments from the portfolio and encouraging Lion of Judah donors to endow their Lion gifts (LOJE)
    • Supervise and support the Senior Manager of Women's and Young Adult Philanthropy's work with the Women's Philanthropy Board leadership and committees including providing thought leadership, strategy, facilitation, and guidance

    Board and Senior Staff Leadership

    • Work closely with executive team and senior leaders to lead the creation and implementation of a development strategy
    • Attend board and committee meetings and regularly report on and present on development activities
    • Serve as ambassador and spokesperson for JFSD in the community, with partner organizations, etc.
    • Work with CEO to ensure Board members and other lay leaders are engaged and energized by their association with JFSD and support lay leaders in fundraising techniques and strategies

    EXPERIENCE, KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:

    • Deep understanding of the non-profit field, the Jewish community, and the social engagement impact of fundraising on Jewish organizations.
    • Strategic and creative thinker with a track record of innovation and flexibility to achieve ambitious goals.
    • Excellence in organizational leadership and management with the ability to develop, coach and manage high performance teams.
    • 7-10 years direct fundraising experience with a proven track record of securing gifts greater than $10,000 through developing strong positive relationships with individual donors.
    • Strong organizational and time management skills ,including the ability to multitask, prioritize workload, and maintain a high level of accuracy with attention to detail.
    • Strong interpersonal relationship building skills including the ability to meet, greet and educate donors, volunteers and constituents with confidence and poise.
    • Strong analytical skills including the ability to evaluate campaign results and identify trends including ability to manage statistical data to assess fundraising effectiveness and devise goals with the CEO.
    • Experience with CRM/database software.
    • Demonstrated ability to work effectively as a leader with strong communications skills.
    • Ability to work well within a team and be a collaborator.

    EDUCATION:
    Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution. MA or advanced degree preferred.

    COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:
    This is a full-time position, working onsite in San Diego, CA, with the ability to work from home on most Fridays.

    Compensation range: $160,000-180,000 per year, with a generous benefits plan, 403(b) retirement plan and comprehensive paid sick leave, vacation and 22 paid holidays per year.
