We are seeking a dynamic and creative Director of Technology to provide educational and administrative leadership in the use of technology in the school, beginning in spring/summer of 2024.
The Director will create and implement a vision for the use of technology in the school and must understand the life of students and teachers in order to approach decisions about technology from an educational perspective as well as from a technological one.
The Director should have knowledge and experience in the use of technology from Early Childhood through Grade 12.The Director must be a strategic thinker with strong communication, organization, and interpersonal skills, and the enthusiasm and credibility to create and sustain instructional momentum in the appropriate use of technology in the school's curriculum.
The Director should be approachable and flexible and embrace a school culture of collaboration, cooperation, and collegiality in order to work with faculty and staff who have varying levels of skill and comfort in the use of technology.
The Director should have a broad knowledge of industry standards and best practices in the use of technology in schools, including NAIS Principles of Good Practice on Technology and the International Society for Technology in Education National Education Technology Standards (ISTE NETS).
The Director reports to the Assistant Head of School, and supervises the Network and Helpdesk Coordinator. This is a full time, permanent, year round position.DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Establish and articulate a vision for the use of technology in the school, guided by the school's mission, strategic plan, and the long range technology plan
Oversee all aspects of the instructional use of technology, including evaluating, modeling, and supporting the effective integration of technology in the educational program
Demonstrate and implement the standards listed in the ISTE NETS, particularly for administrators, teachers and students
Create and sustain a scope and sequence of an integrated instructional technology program in a K-12 curriculum
Maintain knowledge of and communicate current research findings and forecasts related to the effective use of technology in the school's educational program
Plan and implement technology professional development opportunities and in service training for faculty and staff
Oversee all administrative aspects of technology on campus, including infrastructure implementation and maintenance, support of teachers and staff in the use of hardware and equipment, and management of administrative databases, including Blackbaud.
Partner with the Director of Communications to oversee the administration of the school's web site, particularly with regard to web site development and designCreate a multiyear school technology plan including periodic reviews of its effectiveness
Consult with administrators and teachers to coordinate, evaluate, recommend, and implement hardware and software purchases and replacement
Provide training for faculty and staff on all software/hardware used throughout the school
Negotiate contracts and manage purchasing with vendors for technology products and services
Oversee all budgets related to technology
Supervise the work of the IT staff
Perform other duties as assigned by the Assistant Head of School, which may include instruction in related field
Requirements
A bachelor's degree is required and a master's degree in Computer Science, Instructional Technology, Management Information Systems, Educational Technology, or a related field is preferred
Experience with Blackbaud preferred
Experience working in a school or education setting; teacher certification ideal
Supervision experience and skills required
Effective communicator (speaking, listening, and writing) and collaborator
Professional presence and service orientation
Ability to think broadly, manage multiple priorities, work with ambiguity, and delegate.
Ability to use computers and computer systems (including hardware and software) to program, set up functions, enter and audit data
Basic understanding of technology hardware, including desktop computers, laptops, tablets, smartphones, printers, projectors, smart boards, scanners, and digital cameras
Working knowledge of Google applications
Ability to effectively analyze data and problem solve by identifying the underlying principles and breaking down information into separate parts
Possess demonstrated listening and communication skills and strong command of the English language
Ability to deal with difficult situations in a professional manner
Physically, the position requires sitting, walking, standing, crawling, and ability to lift up to 25 lbs. without assistance. Requires ability to walk across a large campus to multiple buildings throughout the day
