    PurposeThe purpose of a Controller is to oversee and manage the accounting operations, ensuring that financial records are accurate, complete, and in compliance with accounting principles and company policies. The Controller is responsible for overseeing day-to-day accounting functions, managing a team of accountants, and working closely with the CFO and other stakeholders to provide timely and accurate financial information for decision-making purposes.
    Confidentiality Clause:As the Controller, you have access to highly sensitive financial and payroll information. It is of utmost importance that you maintain the confidentiality of this information and protect it at all times. No payroll information should be shared unless asked by the executive team or manager of a direct report. You must maintain the highest level of respect for this information and take all necessary precautions to ensure that it is not disclosed to unauthorized individuals.
    Any breach of confidentiality could result in serious consequences for the company and its employees. Therefore, it is essential that you understand the importance of this clause and agree to abide by its terms throughout your employment with the company.
    Key Responsibilities
    • Financial Reporting: Preparation and analysis of financial statements, including income statements, balance sheets, and other statements as needed, to provide accurate and timely financial information to management, ownership, and Board of Directors.
    • Conduct financial analysis and variance analysis to identify trends, patterns, and opportunities for improvement in financial performance.
    • Manage the fixed asset register, including tracking depreciation and capital expenditures.
    • General Ledger Management: Oversight of general ledger activities, including journal entries, reconciliations, and closing processes, to ensure accurate recording of financial transactions.
    • Oversight of the accounts payable and accounts receivable functions, including processing and coding invoices, managing payment terms, and monitoring collections.
    • Internal Controls: Establishment and maintenance of internal controls to ensure the accuracy and integrity of financial records, as well as compliance with GAAP accounting standards and company policies.
    • Audit Management: Coordinate and manage internal and external audits. Address audit findings and recommendations and implement improvements as needed.
    • Cost Management: Oversee cost control efforts, identify cost-saving opportunities, and implement cost-effective strategies to improve profitability.
    • Team Management: Supervision and development of a team of accountants, including hiring, training, performance evaluation, and mentoring, to ensure a high level of productivity and performance.
    • Process Improvement: Identifying areas for process improvement in the accounting department and implementing solutions to increase efficiency, accuracy, and effectiveness of accounting processes.
    • Champion a culture of continuous improvement by actively seeking feedback, analyzing data, and recommending and implementing process enhancements.
    • Collaboration & Communication: Collaborate with other departments, including the CFO, collections manager, business analysis, and operations manager, to ensure smooth and effective financial operations and support decision-making.
    • Work closely with the CFO and other members of the executive team to develop and implement accounting policies and procedures.
    • Think critically and proactively, identify and resolve issues that may arise in the accounting department.
    • Compliance: Ensure compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and accounting standards, as well as company policies and procedures.
    • Coordinate and manage the annual financial statement audit (bank/ external CPA firm)
    • Budgeting and Forecasting: Assist in the annual budgeting/ forecasting process to support strategic planning and operational decision-making.

    Reporting Requirements:
    • Complete preparation and analysis for financial statements by 5th business day of the month. Financial statements including but not limited to:
      • Income Statement
      • Rolling Income Statement
      • Actual to Budget
      • Analysis Statement
    • AdHoc reporting as requested by ownership or executive management.
    • Month end close reconciliations to be completed by the 15th of following month. There are some accounts such as accrued sales taxes and AP inventory that are roll forward reconciliations, but we need to have these cleaned up. Input from you is needed. We can work today on prioritizing when to get these accounts completed.
    • Timely and accurate remittance of sales taxes
