I Have Failed More Than 1,000 Times and That's Why I Love beBee
People keep asking me, "Why do you love beBee so much?" Just last week one person I was talking to online was like, "I don't get it. beBee is just a job. Why are so passionate about it?" This person is like many people I talk to, employed in the corporate world and looking forward to the exact minute they can get off work so they can not think about it until the exact moment they have to be back there in the morning.
Look, I've been there. I've been unhappy in jobs in the corporate world and endured verbally abusive bosses in the past.
I finally found a place I love in my career. The journey has taken me many years. But it wasn't until I was on Chris Spurvey's podcast last week discussing how to use beBee for personal branding that I recalled the entire story.
That story included years of failure. You see, by the time I graduated high school I was fluent in Spanish from having been an exchange student in Spain. I majored in International Business in college. Everyone was telling me that combination would all but ensure me a job with a multinational corporation doing business in Spain, Latin America, or both! I had visions of partying in the clubs of Madrid until 5am and then waking up and closing business deals by day.
Wow, does reality hurt when it sets in!
I applied for jobs in international business for 10 years after I graduated college. Do you know how many jobs you can apply for in 10 years? That's a hell of a lot of no's!
It wasn't until I started blogging and investing heavily into my personal brand that opportunities started to come to me instead of me always being the one chasing it, applying for jobs, sending emails, calling hiring managers, going to networking events, etc.
Imagine that, beBee reached out to me! And before I knew it I was on a Skype call with beBee Co-founder Javier 🐝 beBee and I was named the first Brand Ambassador. It was the start of something special that continues to evolve and grow as every day goes by.
We're far from done, but I can't help to think of where I started when people ask me why I love beBee. I think of all the rejection letters I received from companies over the years. How they didn't even want to have a conversation with me and all of the excuses they gave me for not wanting to speak to me.
What I have learned, is that just because you lose (in my case a lot), it doesn't make you a loser. Use rejection as a motivational force in your life and keep improving yourself always. And yes, part of improving yourself is refining your personal brand, networking with like-minded people, and creating the type of content that attracts opportunities.
I'm honored to be a part of a company that is helping people do exactly that and that is why I love beBee.
