    Default job background
    Description

This position is a hybrid role requiring employees to work from our headquarters location in Seattle, WA every Tuesday and Wednesday, and remote all other days.

Redfin is redefining real estate in the consumer's favor by combining our own technology and agents to create a service that's better, faster, and costs less. As a Redfinnian, you'll make a difference in one of life's most important events-buying or selling a home. Our hiring standards are high, yet our culture is humble. We've got all the perks, but if what you value most is doing great work in a creative, collaborative, and disciplined environment, join us.

As a Senior Employee Relations Specialist, you will be responsible for conducting prompt, thorough, and fair investigations consisting of background research, investigative interviews, and debrief meetings in partnership with Employment Counsel, HRBPs, and the business. You must be able to articulate findings to the business in the form of summaries and conclusions so that long-term solutions can be developed and applied. As a Senior Employee Relations Specialist you will also have the opportunity to deliver compliance education programs and training designed proactively to address workplace issues.

    Key Responsibilities:

    • Manage Employee Relations Cases: Independently conduct a high volume of employee relations investigations (primarily within the brokerage), determine findings, and prepare all required documentation. This includes but is not limited to preparing a clear and concise report summarizing findings of the investigation as well as maintaining case management/tracking tools in AllVoices
    • Analysis and Reporting: Analyzing the collected data to identify patterns, trends, and themes within the organization including Redfin subsidiaries (Title Forward, Bay Equity, Rent). This could involve looking at the frequency of certain types of issues, commonalities among departments or teams, or shifts in employee sentiment over time. Compiling findings into reports that summarize key trends and themes for organizational leaders. These reports might include recommendations for action based on the identified areas for improvement.
    • Identification of Areas for Improvement: Using the insights gained from data analysis to pinpoint areas where the organization could improve its employee relations practices. This might involve recommending changes to policies, procedures, or management approaches.
    • Partnerships with the Team: Partner closely with HRBPs and people managers on employee relations related matters, including advising on employee discipline, underperformance, terminations, reasonable accommodations, complex leave scenarios and other related matters. Closely collaborate with Redfin's Employment Counsel.
    • Documentation and Reporting:Maintain accurate and confidential records of employee relations cases, investigations, and outcomes. Generate reports and analysis to identify trends, areas of concern, and opportunities for improvement.
    • Provide Guidance and Support: Offer guidance and support to employees and managers on employee relations matters, ensuring adherence to company policies, procedures, and legal regulations. This could also involve presenting reports, leading discussions, or providing training on best practices for fostering positive employee relations.
    • Mediation and Conflict Resolution:Act as a neutral mediator in resolving conflicts between employees, departments, or management, fostering open communication and mutual understanding. Provide timely communication to all relevant parties throughout the investigations process, including responding to case escalations. Remain respectful and empathetic in the face of difficult and uncomfortable situations surrounding an investigation
    • Stay Current with Employment Laws: Stay abreast of relevant employment laws, regulations, and industry trends to ensure compliance and mitigate legal risks in employee relations matters.
    Qualifications:
    • Proven experience in employee relations, preferably in a high-volume environment that includes managing multiple end-to-end workplace investigations
    • The ability to understand and empathize with the concerns and perspectives of employees (including cultural sensitivity and awareness)
    • A customer service mindset and treating our employees as our internal customers and providing responsive and supportive service is essential
    • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to assess complex situations and make sound decisions.
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact effectively with employees at all levels.
    • Discretion and integrity in handling sensitive and confidential information.
    • Demonstrated ability to successfully mediate using conflict resolution techniques
    • Experience using data to inform next steps and decisions
