    This position is located in the Division of Insurance and Research, Research and Regulatory Analysis Branch of the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation in Washington, .

    Salary reflects a pay cap for this position of $310,000.

    Duties

  • Directs highly trained, multi-disciplinary staff of economists and analysts that formulate and discover significant new evidence on important research questions in banking, and conduct research and analysis of specific regulatory proposals and industry or economic trends that may be affected by regulatory developments. Evaluates the research program and its productivity, standing in the research community, and develops plans to elevate the research program and mentor economists.
  • Directs policy leadership and research efforts through the Center for Financial Research (CFR), conducted by highly skilled economists to explore key developments affecting the banking industry, risk measurement and management methods, deposit insurance, banking performance, corporate finance, regulatory policy, and related topics of interest to the FDIC and the larger financial community.
  • Leads FDIC and interagency project teams comprised of technical and policy experts tasked with the development and evaluation of new and existing regulatory standards, rules, and policies.
  • Manages policy research and analysis efforts performed in support of legislative efforts to reform financial industry regulation, provides support for testimony and speeches, co-sponsors major research conferences, and publishes CFR Working Papers.
  • Provides technical direction to ensure that the areas of research will be of a quality suitable for submission to the CFR Working Paper Series, FDIC publications, and other scholarly journals.
  • Develops and maintains effective channels of communication with external stakeholders by means of professional publications, while applying Divisional and Corporate standards of editorial review and approval; conducts public outreach as appropriate with internal and external groups to convey research and analytical findings on behalf of the Corporation.
  • Establishes and maintains on-going relationships with divisions and offices within the Corporation, officials of other regulatory agencies, supervisory authorities, and representatives of financial institutions, and the private sector, including prominent economists and industry analysts from a range of industry sectors and academic institutions. Through these contacts, the incumbent articulates Corporation and Division policies and procedures and gains the continued cooperation and support of top policy-making officials within and outside the Corporation.
  • Develops strategic operating plans that reflect the long-range objectives and priorities established by the Division Director related to the formulation and discovery of significant new evidence on important research questions in banking, and the regulatory analysis and the effects of financial regulation on the . economy and the banking system, including community banks.
  • Provides executive leadership over the research fellows and visiting scholar's programs and guides representatives of CFR, outside economists, and other parties, as appropriate, to ensure the required breadth of expertise is incorporated into specific projects and provides technical direction for assignments as needed.
