    Controller
    Are you looking to join a privately held growing company in the consumer products industry?

    This is an opportunity to be a Controller for a company with a great company culture that reflects its values.

    As the Controller, you will oversee all daily accounting and finance operations, playing a crucial role in shaping our internal processes for future growth.

    The ideal candidate will have a strong grasp of accounting principles, analyze financial statements, and provide concise reports to senior management.

    This role requires managing multiple people and processes simultaneously, daily problem solving, and working independently. This role will report to the Chief Financial Officer.
    Job Qualifications
    Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA certification preferred.
    Minimum of 10 years of progressive accounting experience, with at least 2 years at the management level required.
    Strong knowledge of accounting principles, standards and regulations required. Must have experience producing financial statements and handling complex accounting transactions.
    Experience with inventory accounting, including an understanding of freight factors and standard costing.
    Proficient in using Excel, including pivot tables and advanced formulas required. Knowledge of an ERP system.
    Strong analytical and critical thinking skills, and attention to detail.
    Self-starter, able to work independently, and a desire to help implement change.
    Exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal, to effectively interact with cross-functional teams and stakeholders.

    Ability to travel approximately 5% of the time to visit retail locations and distributions centers outside of the San Francisco Bay Area.

    Job Responsibilities
    Manage and prepare all accounting transactions for the company.

    Month-End and Year-End Close:

    Oversee the month-end and year-end close processes including journal entry preparation, reconciliations, accruals, and allocations to ensure accurate financial record.


    Financial Reporting:

    Prepare, review, and analyze financial statements, including income statement, balance sheet and cash flow statements, ensuring accuracy and compliance with relevant accounting standards.


    General Ledger Management:

    Maintain and reconcile the general ledger accounts, review entries for accurate coding, identifying, and resolving discrepancies and ensuring the overall integrity of financial data.

    Redesign current trial balance to better fit the trajectory of the business.

    Manage Employees:
    Mentor, train and manage a minimum of two employees both on site and remotely. Review their work, develop their skills, and ensure staff are performing tasks as required.

    Inventory Management:

    With the help of the CFO and the business, aid in refining the accounting for inventory within our inventory management systems.

    Oversee store and distribution center physical inventory processes one to two times per year and help enhance our store cycle count process.


    Internal Controls:
    Help establish and maintain internal controls to safeguard company assets and maintain data integrity.

    Audit Support:
    collaborate with external accountants to help provide documentation and explanations to ensure a smooth audit process.

    Process Improvements:
    Continuously access and improve accounting processes, systems, and workflows to ensure efficiency, accuracy, and timeliness of financial reporting.

    Team Collaboration:
    Foster a collaborative and growth-oriented environment.
    Ad-hoc Projects: Participate in special projects, such as system implementations, process enhancements, or financial analyses, as required.
