    Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit

    The College of Arts & Sciences consists of seventy-one academic departments, curricula, programs, centers, and institutes.

    The College of Arts & Sciences is administered by the Dean of the College, and is divided into four divisions, which are overseen by four Senior Associate Deans.

    All academic departments and curricula are assigned to one of the following four divisions Fine Arts and Humanities, Natural Sciences and Mathematics, Social Sciences and Global Programs and Undergraduate Education.

    These Senior Associate Deans, along with the Senior Associate Dean for Operations & Strategy, Senior Associate Dean for Development, Senior Associate Dean for Diversity, Equity and Inclusion, Associate Dean for Research & Innovation, and the Director of Communications for the College, all report to the Dean.

    The Office of the Dean is responsible for the administration and operations of the College under the Office of the Provost.


    During its 200+ year history, the College has grown and thrived and is now numbering more than 1,000 faculty teaching over 17,000 undergraduate and 2,400 graduate students.

    College programming resides in 76 buildings, many of them within the historic heart of the campus, covering 1.5 million assignable square feet.

    Our faculty includes distinguished scholars, artists, scientists, and performers with international reputations. All are teachers as well as leaders in their fields of intellectual and artistic endeavor. Eighty-one percent of upper-class students choose a major in the College.

    Eighty-seven percent of the credit hours are taught in the College and there are around fifty different undergraduate degrees offered.

    Bachelor of Arts (BA), Bachelor of Arts with a Major in Interdisciplinary Studies, Bachelor of Science (B.S.), Bachelor of Fine Arts (B.FA), and Bachelor of Music (B.M.) degrees are offered.

    Many of these academic programs also allow students to minor at the Bachelor's level as well. Nearly all of the departments and curricula also offer masters and doctoral degrees through the Graduate School.

    Position Summary

    The Executive Assistant's (EA's) primary responsibility is to provide executive support to the College of Arts & Sciences' leadership. In this capacity, the EA will focus on communicating and coordinating meetings, events, communications, and office management. It will serve as a key and primary contact within the Dean's Office.

    The role must have a comprehensive knowledge of the administrative functions of the College's divisions, associated centers, and department leadership.


    The position must analyze, prioritize, and keep track of multiple pieces of complex and often confidential information in order to make accurate, efficient recommendations regarding workflow, and provide facilitation and the processing of information and correspondences.

    In close collaboration with senior leaders, the EA manages the complex schedules, including requests for appointments, meetings, events and travel with significant discretion and judgement.

    The job is responsible for independent problem solving, answering questions, providing information, and taking action on behalf of their supervisors.

    Minimum Education and Experience Requirements


    High school diploma or equivalency and three years of progressively responsible administrative/office management experience; or Associate's degree in secretarial science, business administration, or a related discipline and one year of progressively responsible administrative/office management experience ; or Bachelor's degree, preferably in business administration or a related discipline; or equivalent combination of training and experience.

    All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.

    Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience


    Excellent verbal, written, and communication skills are required, i.e., the ability to communicate effectively verbally and through written correspondence as well as in communicating with individuals in one-on-one situations.

    A precise command of grammar, punctuation, and spelling is required. Attention to detail is required. Adeptness with multitasking is required. Computer literacy is required and includes keyboarding ability and proficiency with word processing, spreadsheets, and presentation software. Excellent organizational skills are required. Must be able to work independently, use initiative, and make substantive decisions quickly. The ability to develop knowledge of, respect for, and skills to engage with those of other cultures or backgrounds is required

    Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience

    Experience working with high-level executives within a university setting is preferred. Experience handling heavy scheduling is also preferred.
