    The Elementary School Assistant Director/Vice Principal works in full partnership with the Elementary School Director to oversee and facilitate the TPS-5 program, which includes regular interactions with students, parents, and staff. The Assistant Director coordinates the English Program curriculum and meets regularly with individual students, parents, teachers, and teacher assistants to answer academic questions, discuss concerns or develop strategies for student success. The Elementary Assistant Director reports directly to the Elementary School Director and is involved in various aspects of Elementary School administration.

    Administration support:
    • Contributes to academic projects and the academic long-range plan as determined by the Elementary School Director
    • Leads the Elementary School in the absence of the Director
    • Coordinates special projects upon request
    • Assists in creating, editing, and distributing communications including handbooks, code of conduct, marketing /admissions /social media posts, report cards, and parent communications
    • Helps develop the Elementary School Division schedules, allocation of additional duties, and calendar
    • Oversees the substitutes schedule and the assignment of floaters when teachers or teacher assistants are absent
    • Oversees the Elementary School's purchasing needs of all supplies and equipment (collects needs, assesses inventory, reviews orders to be made within division budget after Division Director's review and approval)
    • Helps with the organization of the overnight field trips
    • Serves as a faculty support person and as a vital communication link between and among faculty and administration
    • Regularly participates in drop-off and dismissal procedures
    Students support:

    Supports teachers and counselors in managing student disciplinary concerns in alignment with ISB's values, mission, and positive school culture
    • Ensures Elementary School classrooms are equipped with the materials that children need to learn, to explore their interests, and to express their creativity
    • Stays current with instructional coaching practices, multilingual education, educational technology, and best practices for students with learning disabilities
    • Creates relevant learning resources for students, as needed
    • Teaches specific courses as assigned by the Elementary School Director
    English program curriculum coordination:
    • Assists with the development and supervision of English curricular programs
    • Organizes, schedules, and analyzes scores of MAP testing
    • Works closely with the French coordinator to organize, schedule, and analyze scores of French standardized testing
    • Helps plan, prepare, and provide instruction and workshops for faculty professional development and in-service days
    • Ensures implementation, development, integration, and alignment of English curriculum and instructional goals
    • Works closely with the French coordinator to review and harmonize specific subject matters curricula (ELA, social studies, Math and SEL) with the English curriculum
    • Ensures that content and methods taught to prepare students for wellbeing, success, and are consistent with best practices as well as the school's mission and core values
    • Helps organize and lead faculty meetings. Participates in grade level, cycle, and faculty meetings as needed
    • Works collaboratively with faculty to design, develop, and create instructional content, courses, or projects
    • Ensures implementation, development, integration, and alignment of MA standards and instructional goals
    • Organizes curriculum mapping, curriculum analysis, reviews, harmonization, and amendments
    • In collaboration with the French Program Curriculum Coordinator harmonizes ISB's multilingual curriculum
    • In collaboration with the French Program Curriculum Coordinator organizes, monitors, and conducts follow-up on co-teaching and bilingual projects
    • Work closely with the ESL teacher and Literacy Specialists to provide overall consistency of ISB English curriculum.
    Parents support:
    • Participates in and helps organize parent/teacher conferences
    • Helps to communicate the curriculum to families by organizing and participating in presentations to parents
    • Confers with parents on a regular basis to discuss the development or progress of their enrolled children
    • Communicates with families on specific student matters and helps teachers resolve student-related issues as needed
    Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

    This is a full-time, exempt position, with an on-site requirement. Hours are Monday through Friday, hours to be determined by the Director of the Elementary and/or the Head of School. Extended hours may be necessary as needed to assist with events and participate in meetings.

    Work Environment

    This position functions both indoors, in a classroom setting, as well as outdoors, during recess, lunch breaks, and school events. There is a lot of interaction with children, parents, faculty, and staff throughout the day.

    Physical Demands
    • Ability to exert up to 25 pounds of force to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects.
    • This type of work requires occasional or frequent standing, walking, sitting, bending, and reaching for extended periods of time.
    • Sufficient manual dexterity and/or mobility to grasp and/or manipulate objects, and move about the campus.
    • Employees in this classification may be subject to work environments that have exposure to weather with extremes of heat and/or cold and varying noise levels.
    Qualifications

    Required Qualifications
    • A valid teaching credential
    • Bachelor's degree
    • 5-years' teaching experience in Elementary School
    • Excellent knowledge and extensive experience with the MA Standards and Common Core
    • Fluency in English and French language working proficiency
    • Experience with curriculum design and development
    • Experience developing professional development content, programs, and workshops
    • Strong knowledge of child development, bilingual education, and language acquisition
    • Mastery of technology integration in the classroom
    • Excellent leadership, organization, and communication skills
    • Strong ability to prioritize and multitask
    • An ability to work independently and as a member of a team
    • Excellent recommendations
