Assistant Marching Band Director Position

Job Summary:


The Assistant Marching Band Director is responsible for providing support and assistance to the Head Marching Band Director in all aspects of the marching band program, including rehearsals, performances, and administrative tasks.


Qualifications:


  • Demonstrated proficiency in instrumental music performance and instruction
  • Experience in marching band techniques and ensemble management
  • Ability to effectively communicate with student musicians and foster a positive learning environment
  • Knowledge of music theory and ensemble performance
  • CPR/AED Certified
  • Valid Driver's License

Evaluation:

The performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board's policy on Evaluation.

Marching Band Director


Terms of Employment:

This is a yearly stipend position at Code 1. The term may be extended annually pending the review of school needs and the evaluation process.

Duties and Responsibilities:


  • Assists the Marching Band Director in planning and implementing rehearsals, performances, and other marching band activities.
  • Provides instruction and guidance to student musicians during rehearsals, sectionals, and performances.
  • Collaborates with the Marching Band Director to develop and maintain a comprehensive curriculum for the marching band program.
  • Coordinates with other music staff and school administrators to schedule rehearsals, performances, and facility usage.
  • Assists in selecting and procuring marching band equipment, uniforms, and music materials.
  • Helps maintain inventory of marching band equipment and ensures proper care, maintenance, and storage.
  • Provides feedback and assessment to student musicians on their performance and progress.
  • Fosters a positive and inclusive learning environment that promotes teamwork, respect, and camaraderie among band members.
  • Attends performances, competitions, and other events with the marching band, providing leadership and support as needed.
  • Communicates regularly with students, parents, and school administrators regarding marching band activities, schedules, and expectations.
  • Assists in recruiting and retaining student musicians for the marching band program.
  • Participates in professional development opportunities to enhance instructional skills and stay current with trends in marching band education.
  • Models and promotes ethical and professional behavior in all interactions with students, colleagues, and stakeholders.
  • Performs any other related duties as assigned by the Head Marching Band Director or another appropriate administrator.

  • Must have excellent planning and organization skills
  • Must have the ability to work collaboratively with others
  • Must have strong verbal communication skills
  • Must model a desire and willingness to learn continually

Physical Demands:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear.

The employee is frequently required to walk, run, jump, stretch, stand, sit, use hands for fine manipulation, handle or feel and reach with hands and arms.

The employee is occasionally required to stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally up to 75 pounds. The employee may occasionally climb stairs, ropes, or ladders.

Specific vision abilities required in this job include close vision, distance vision, the ability to adjust focus, and peripheral vision.

The employee must have the ability to demonstrate the proper techniques and skills needed for athletic participation.
