    Company Overview: FirstRepair was founded by Robin Rue Simmons, a former Evanston, Illinois alderman and the architect of the nation's first government-funded reparations program. Robin's "solutions only" leadership style has inspired the services of FirstRepair, including sharing best practices, creating tools, and developing a viable model to advance local reparations policy. Our knowledge network includes seasoned experts and social innovators with a proven commitment to reparations, racial justice, and Black community empowerment. Our services will include workshops, educational symposiums, research, stakeholder development, and policy design for local government bodies and institutions. Position Overview: FirstRepair is creating the position of Chief Operating Officer to provide administrative and financial leadership and to serve as a key adviser to our President and Executive Director. You will report directly to the President and Executive Director. The ideal candidate will be passionate about the mission of FirstRepair and interested in making an important contribution to advancing local reparations for Black Americans. What You Will Be Responsible For:
    • Serve as a critical thought partner to the President & Executive Director in defining, prioritizing, and executing organizational strategy.
    • Translate that strategy into financial and operational plans and reporting to manage the operations of this mission-critical non-profit.
    • Develop and manage the production of financial and informational reporting to key funders and the Board of Trustees as well as information and reports to be used to manage operations.
    • Build and manage a small team to support the growing demands of FirstRepair to provide leadership to the expanding local reparations movement.
    • Assist the President & Executive Director with developing and conducting regular interaction with the Board of Trustees to establish and build upon excellent non-profit governance practices.
    • Support the design and execution of virtual monthly reparations update meetings and their annual reparations symposium, as well as other events essential to the success of the mission of FirstRepair.
    What You Bring to the Role:
    • Undergraduate degree in business or related field; MBA or similar a plus.
    • 3-5 years experience in a senior finance and administrative position at another non-profit.
    • Three-plus years with a management consulting firm is a plus.
    • Management of a small team.
    • Interaction with grantors and other funders, particularly foundations.
    • Engagement with non-profit boards.
    • Desire to take responsibility for building critical processes and a team to support them.
    • Self-starter who is capable of identifying a problem, articulating actions to address that problem, and then executing a solution.
    • Willing to create, maintain, and own administrative and financial processes and reports.
    • Thrives in an entrepreneurial environment and can grow systems and processes as the organization expands.
    Compensation, Benefits, and Job Structure:
    FirstRepair is located in Evanston, IL, and the COO will be expected to work on-site with periodic travel as needed. Benefits include generous healthcare, holidays, and paid time off. Compensation for this role will be $130-150k based on relevant skills and experience.
