Starting salary is dependent upon qualifications, but in most cases is no higher than the midpoint for the range.



Scheduled Hours:
Monday-Friday: 12:00PM - 8:00PM.


NATURE OF WORK:


This position is responsible primarily for keeping the Municipal Service Center and occasionally other City facilities clean and in an orderly condition.

This is manual and some semi-skilled maintenance work involving the general maintenance of the interior and exterior of municipal buildings.

Work includes cleaning restrooms and windows, mopping, sweeping, trash removal, sweeping sidewalks, securing the building, recycling, stocking, loading dock operations, deliveries, room set-ups and break downs, including AV equipment, light plumbing, painting, and carpentry, small repair and maintenance of machines, and operating HVAC thermostats ensuring that the interior and exterior of the Service Center, Civic Center and other City facilities are presentable at all times.

Employees may be assigned tasks of similar or higher level classifications to gain experience and training in preparation for advancement.

Work regularly exposes the employee to cleaning chemicals and dust and dirt.

Safety equipment such as hard hats, safety glasses, respirator, gloves, lumbar support, reflective vests, steel-toed shoes, and earplugs are worn.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS (Specific assignment will include some or all of the following):

  • Closes the building/facility including closing and locking interior and exterior doors at the end of each work day.
  • Responds to emergency and other calls for service via text message, radio or telephone calls.
  • Removes recycling materials from all designated containers throughout the facility, indoors and outdoors.
  • Maintains an orderly atmosphere and caution users about conduct and misuse of public property, updating the supervisor of any unsafe conditions or needed repairs.
  • Informs management of the need for major repairs regarding lighting, heating, and physical structure.
  • Removes snow and debris, including litter from the sidewalks and property walkways keeping the premises in an orderly condition.
  • Drives a city vehicle to and from vendors or other city building to pickup supplies materials; loads and unloads vehicles.
  • Makes minor electric repairs to light fixtures, switches, and sockets.
  • Makes minor repairs or assists in unclogging toilets; assists a plumber on installation or repair projects; cleans and maintains all plumbing fixtures.
  • Maintains building which may include, but not be limited to, minor and routine painting, washing walls and cleaning window treatments, washing windows, dusting/polishing furniture, and minor assembly/repairs of equipment.
  • Moves furniture in and out of rooms; sets up tables, chairs Audio Visual (AV) coffee setups and other equipment and supplies for meetings; installs, assembles and disassembles holiday decorations; conducts an annual inventory of furniture and office equipment.
  • Cleans and maintains the interior and exterior of the Civic Center including washrooms, lunch and breakroom and meeting rooms. Cleans and mops floors. Cleans glass and glasses, replaces light bulbs fills soap dispensers, toilets tissue and paper towel holders. Cleans vents, checks fire extinguishers and performs related work.
  • Orders and maintains inventory of janitorial supplies.
  • Responds to pager and loading dock calls, distributes UPS and other packages throughout the building.
  • Troubleshoots and sets up small electrical and mechanical equipment such as audiovisual equipment.
  • Fills office requisitions for supplies and deliveries.
  • Accepts deliveries of materials.
  • Uses forklift to unload heavy items.
  • Handles deliveries and picks up mail.
  • Moves furniture.
  • Assists Facility Maintenance Worker III staff with their tasks as assigned.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS OF WORK:


  • Must possess a high school diploma/ GED or higher and must possess one (1) or more years of related cleaning or maintenance work experience.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license and safe driving record.
  • Must be willing and able to pass an inhouse Forklift Training within probationary period.

Knowledge, skills, and abilities in the following areas:

  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide all units of measure; to perform the four operations with like or common decimal fractions; to compute ratio, rate, and percent.
  • Ability to read a variety of safety rules and instructions in the use and maintenance of shop tools and equipment, and methods and procedures in mechanical drawing and layout work.
  • Some knowledge of general cleaning procedures and practices.
