    Job DescriptionPosition SummarySompo is seeking a Vice President, Middle Market Property Underwriting Technical Manager. This position will be located in the Sompo New York City office.

    The Middle Market Property Underwriting Technical Manager will report to the Vice President, Head of Technical Managers in the US.

    This role will have an opportunity to shape the underwriting strategy and vision, driving transformative change and fostering collaboration across the organization for the property line.

    Further, this position will handle referrals for Property line of business, develop underwriting guidelines, participate in special projects and provide subject matter expertise for the business.

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities Underwriting and Product knowledge of the Commercial Property IndustryProvide product knowledge to Underwriting, Operations, IT, and other functional areas across the organization as neededHandle complex queries and referrals within delegated authorityContribute to reinsurance buying strategiesLead emerging and systemic risk initiatives, ensuring a proactive approach to risk managementSupport the Underwriting team to execute business strategy to include pricing, rate adequacy, terms, and conditionsProvide input.

    supporting the development of strategic business planning activities that align with Underwriting philosophy and practices Identify and lead technical training initiatives and projectsEnsure Underwriting Initiatives and Strategies support overall growth, profitability, and retention of business Educate and reinforce Underwriting strategy and guidelines to applicable team/sSubject Matter Expert and support for Underwriting team/sProvide Underwriting insight related to Underwriting toolsEstablish exposure identification, risk assessment, risk response, controls and monitoring of the standard LoBParticipate in pre-renewal, pipeline, and new business pre-qualification meetingsParticipate and provide feedback for CAT modelling and Actuarial modelsWork with Regulatory Compliance to establish strategies and guidanceWork collaboratively with Underwriters and Legal when drafting manuscript endorsementsPartner with the Actuarial team to review insurance products that support profitability, competitive pricing, and legal complianceRecommend product changes in response to consumer needs and marketplace trendsReview and implement legislative, regulatory, and other mandated changesProvide product knowledge to functional areasSubject Matter Expert related to special projects and new processing system initiativesConsult & coordinate with Underwriting, Actuarial, IT and Customer Service to elicit decision makingIdentify process/service improvement opportunities on a continuous basisCommunicate industry trends related to coverage, guidelines, and legal issues with Underwriting team/sCollaborate with various functional areas across the organization to include Legal, Underwriting, Claims, Actuarial, Audit and Regulatory ComplianceQualifications:Minimum of 10 years of in the Commercial P&C IndustryExtensive Property knowledge and understanding of the industryExcellent analytical reasoning and problem-solving skillsExceptional attention to detailStrong organizational and time management skillsAbility to make decisions with limited information and see issues through to resolutionExcellent spoken and written communication skills, including the ability to communicate effectively to both technical and non-technical audiences that include all levels of managementExperience advising and collaborating with Executive and Senior leadershipAbility to work independently and as part of a cross-functional teamStrong commitment to providing superior client serviceMust be willing to travel up to 30%

    Salary Range:
    $160,000 - $240,000 Actual compensation for this role will depend on several factors including the cost of living associated with your work location, your qualifications, skills, competencies, and relevant experience.

    Our compensation program is built on a foundation that promotes a pay-for-performance culture, resulting in higher incentive awards, on average, when the Company does well and lower incentive awards when the Company underperforms.

    The total compensation opportunity for all regular, full-time employees is a combination of base salary and incentives that gets adjusted upfront based on overall Company performance with final awards based on individual performance.
