    Description
    Chronicle Books is looking for a Controller with current or prior book publishing industry experience. The Controller is responsible for managing the financial affairs of Chronicle Books.

    The position is responsible for providing financial analysis of monthly results including income, expenses, and earnings based on past, present, and future operations.

    Additionally, they direct the preparation of budgets and forecasts and set accounting policies and procedures throughout the organization in order to satisfy corporate, legal, and tax requirements.

    The Controller also partners with inventory operations to forecast inventory needs and reviews history to modify inventory models.

    The primary focus of this role is the financial management of our business and this position also serves as a member of the company's Operating Group and collaborates with management in developing and implementing plans for the infrastructure (systems, processes, and personnel) to achieve the growth objectives of the company.


    Primary Job Responsibilities:
    Oversees the operations of the Accounting and Finance departments.
    Responsible for all aspects of accounting, financial functions, and reporting.
    Responsible for generating and reviewing monthly financial reports and ensuring the reported results comply with generally accepted accounting principles.
    Recommend benchmarks that will be used to measure the company's performance.
    Produces the annual budget and forecasts; reports significant budget differences to management.
    Creates company budgets and reforecasts quarterly with variance analysis.
    Analyzes financial trends and recommends changes as needed.
    Responsible for royalty reporting and compliance including audits as required.
    Manages cash flow and credit line.
    Manages capital budget by asset type.
    Responsible for managing the data and reporting related to the company's inventory needs.
    Oversees the annual insurance policy renewals including partnering with HR on the annual health renewals.

    Maintains a documented system of accounting policies and procedures; implements a system of controls over accounting transactions to minimize risk.

    Works with auditors and tax consultants and provides information as requested.
    Performs other related duties as necessary or assigned.
    Requirements
    Ten years or more of related experience.
    Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Business Administration or equivalent work experience.
    Certified Public Accountant or Certified Management Accountant designation preferred.
    Excellent management, supervisory, written and verbal communication skills.
    Detailed-oriented with excellent organizational and time management skills.
    Proficient in accounting software, preferably Oracle.
    Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite
    Previous publishing and manufacturing experience a plus

    Employees at Chronicle Books follow a flexible hybrid schedule of working a minimum of 3 days per week in our San Francisco office, depending on project and business needs.

    Hiring Salary Range:
    $125,000 - $162,500. This range represents the anticipated low and high end of the expected salary for this position and will be determined by factors including but not limited to the applicant's education, experience, knowledge, skills, abilities, and geographic location as well as internal equity and alignment with market data. This position is also eligible for an annual bonus and participates in a company profit share plan.
