    Working in Child Welfare can be rewarding, helping children and families shape their future. Child Welfare Social Work is an area of social work that involves making sure children's/youths needs are met and working to towards a goal of permanency. The Foster Care Program works with children and families who have come to the attention of DHHS and the Courts due to abuse and neglect. The assigned specialist will work with the family to achieve a permanency goal of reunification, or another plan as deemed appropriate by the Courts. This includes helping youth transition to independent housing, learn budgeting, obtain vital documents, and monitoring/assisting the youth with work and/or educational goals.

    The Children's Center of Wayne County allows you to be flexible in your schedule, including HYBRID/REMOTE work. There is a two-day office mandate with flexible days and times.

    To qualify for this position you will need: A minimum of Bachelor's Degree in one of the following fields required: Interdisciplinary Studies in Social Science, Education, Community Development, Law Enforcement, Forensic Psychology, Gerontology, Special Education, Education of the emotionally disturbed, Education of the gifted, Behavioral Science, Community Services, Counseling (Psychology), Criminal Justice (Administration), Early Childhood Studies, Family Ecology, Family Life Education, Family Studies, Family and/or Child Development, Guidance/School Counseling, Human Development and Family Studies, Human Services, Psychology, Social Work or Sociology. Prior child welfare experience in foster care or adoption case work preferred, but not required.

    You must be able to provide proof of having a current, valid driver's license, reliable transportation, and current automobile insurance. Additionally, this position does requires driving and sitting for extended periods of time. There is a on-call rotation that is maintained to respond to crisis for our children. This may require non-traditional work hours if/when a crisis arises. Time will be compensated if this occurs.

    Some of the responsibilities of this position are:

    1. Complete quarterly written assessments of the client and/or family or as needed.
    2. Revise and update goals and/or plan of services quarterly.
    3. Providing case management services to all assigned cases.
    4. Completing monthly home visits with clients in the community
    5. Attending court hearings, serving as a liaison with the Department of Health and Humans Services and the agency.
    6. Engaging and interacting with MDHHS and other stakeholders.
    7. Ensure all court ordered services and/or tasks are referred and implemented.
    8. Addressing crisis as they arise. This may require non-traditional, after hours work. Time will be compensated if this occurs.
    9. Assisting with placement preservation or identifying another if needed,
    10. Develop with the client a treatment plan and service delivery plan based on needs identified, available community resources and financial resources of the client.
