Head of Product Marketing - San Francisco, CA, United States - Retool

    Default job background
    Description

Nearly every company in the world runs on custom software: Gartner estimates that up to 50% of all code is written for internal use. This is the operational software for refunding orders, underwriting loans, onboarding employees, analyzing transactions, and providing customer support. But most companies don't have adequate resources to properly invest in these tools, leading to a lot of old and clunky internal software or, even worse, users still stuck in manual and spreadsheet flows.

At Retool, we're on a mission to bring good software to everyone. We're building a new type of development platform that combines the benefits of traditional software development with a drag-and-drop UI editor and AI, making it dramatically faster to build internal tools. We believe that the future of software development lies in abstracting away the tedious and repetitive tasks developers waste time on, while creating reusable components that act as a force multiplier for future developers and projects. The result is not just productivity, but good software by default. And that's a mission worth striving for.

Today, our customers span from small startups building their first operational tools to Fortune 500 companies building mission-critical apps for thousands of users across their business. Interested in joining us? Let us know

    ABOUT THE TEAM:

Product Marketing is a highly strategic function within the organization that leads the charge on understanding our buyer, our products, and the market as a whole, and turning that into messaging and content that helps us continue the hyper growth journey we've been on. Additionally, the product teams look to product marketing to feed customer and market insights into their roadmap.

    WHY WE'RE LOOKING FOR YOU:

Reporting to the CMO, The Head of Product Marketing will create the strategy for the function, solving backwards from Retool's buyer's needs and our internal goals. We are looking for this person to partner closely with growth, sales, product, and the exec team to chart the PMM roadmap, and then coach and guide the individual product marketers through execution.

We have an exciting opportunity to truly define and own the application development platform category and the Head of PMM will corral the resources and best minds to get us there.

We really like spending time with each other in person and believe in the power of in-person collaboration, creativity, and connection so we have returned in a hybrid capacity to our San Francisco offices 3 days a week.

    IN THIS ROLE, YOU WILL:

    • Conduct research on our ideal customer profile (ICP) and publish insights to guide the demand generation and sales teams to be more effective
    • Craft messaging that speaks to our ICP and that creates a desire to engage with Retool marketing or try Retool
    • Guide PMMs and the content team to create great content, as well as occasionally author content directly, across both thought leadership and product content
    • Work with sales to understand their needs and build an enablement roadmap to ensure they have the assets they need to be successful
    • Partner closely with demand gen to ensure PMM's product, customer, and competitor understanding is baked into every campaign
    • Build a win/loss and competitive program to ensure we're improving win rates over time

    THE SKILLSET YOU'LL BRING:

    • 15+ years of experience, with 10+ years in product marketing
    • Experience leading the PMM function and setting strategy for the team
    • Experience with building high performance teams including mentorship, career coaching, and fostering positive morale
    • Strong cross-functional partnership skills to collaborate closely with product and sales teams
    • A sharp eye for compelling messaging and content that excites, persuades, and converts
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills for both internal and external presentations
    • An ability to understand technical content and buyers and ideally be hands-on in Retool to gain a first-hand understanding of our products
    • The ability to discern trends and patterns from vast quantities of research and data and articulate insights to technical and non-technical users alike
    • Experience with developing programs and content that build brand affinity with developers

We have a goal of having at least 7% of our workers as people with disabilities. The law says we must measure our progress towards this goal. Completing this form is voluntary, and we hope that you will choose to do so. Your answer is confidential. No one who makes hiring decisions will see it. Your decision to complete the form and your answer will not harm you in any way.
