Responsibilities As an IT Specialist (INFOSEC), some of your typical work assignments may include: Knowledge of cybersecurity standards such as the CIP Standards and the NIST Cybersecurity Framework, cybersecurity best practices, and mitigation measures in one or more areas of IT computer systems, networking, communications, industrial control systems and related fields.
General knowledge of the energy industry such as power generation, transmission and distribution systems, control systems, or operations of electromechanical components and "smart" devices.
Knowledge of current cybersecurity vulnerabilities and threats and the best practices commonly used in the IT industry to mitigate them.
Ability to analyze and explain legislation and policy initiatives with complex or innovative IT aspects, both orally and in writing.
Having the ability to effectively present research, findings and recommendations both orally and in writing. Ability to effectively present research, findings and recommendations both orally and in writing.Ability to apply leadership skills and behaviors to serve as a subject matter expert and team lead to a multidisciplinary staff charged with producing high quality, technically accurate work related to cybersecurity.
Requirements Conditions of Employment You must be a U.S. Citizen or National. A one-year probationary period may be required. A background investigation is required. You must have one full year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-12 level.Specialized experience is defined as:
Experience with cybersecurity mitigation and implementation of best practices, for at least 2 of following: Cloud architecture, Active Directory, Virtual Machines, Email platform security, Networking, Firewalls, Security Information and Event Management, Incident Response, Industrial Control System Operations, or Industrial Control System Security.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social).
Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills, and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.
You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including any volunteer experience.
