    Our highly supportive Financial Reporting team is ready to welcome new partners Apply for the Insurance Accounting Specialist role at State Fund today

    The Financial Reporting team has an opening for an Insurance Accounting Specialist.

    The successful candidate will be carrying out tasks to complete the financial close process ensuring that financial statements are prepared in conformity with prescribed accounting practices or permitted by the California Department of Insurance (CDI) with appropriate internal controls.


    In this Role, You Will:

    • Perform month-end, quarter-end, and year-end closing tasks including reconciling account balances, preparing relevant reports with tight deadlines
    • Collaborate with various Finance functions; analyze financial variances, present results to upper management
    • Resolve accounting discrepancies by investigating root cause of issues including but not limited to following up cross-functionally
    • Prepare quarterly and annual CDI filings
    • Document and maintain accounting processes, procedures, memos, and guidelines
    • Work closely with external and internal auditors, and cross functions to ensure timely deliverable of financial reports

    Ideal Candidate will Possess:

    • CPA
    • Public accounting experience
    • Knowledge in insurance accounting
    • Experience with Oracle ERP

    Working Conditions


    Telework may be available and is subject to change based on State Fund guidelines and business needs, however this position may be required to come to the office on occasion even with remote work schedule.

    Office home-base may be in any of the following SCIF offices: San Francisco, Glendale, Pleasanton, Sacramento, San Diego, Vacaville, San Jose, Santa Ana, Stockton, or Riverside

    Selected candidate(s) hired may be required to attend in-person Onboarding at our Vacaville office. Expenses for Onboarding attendance would be paid by State Fund.

    Education Requirement:

    • Equivalent to graduation from college, with specialization in accounting; or
    • Completion of the equivalent of 45 semester units given by a collegiate-grade residence or correspondence institution, of which 24 units must include courses in financial accounting, managerial accounting, intermediate/advanced accounting, fund/governmental accounting, cost accounting, auditing, business law, computer applications/management information systems.
    Incomplete applications may also result in removal from consideration. You are required to complete employment history on the application form (STD 678). You may be disqualified from the recruitment process if the employment history is not complete.
