    Job Description:

    Data Specialist Data Specialist:

    in conjunction with the Homeless and Housing Services Departments, the Data Specialist develops and manages data collection and entry processes, data quality management, data reporting, and data analysis for the agency.

    The Data Specialist also helps the agency plan for future data needs.

    This person should have a minimum of a Bachelor's degree with a minimum of 2 years of experience working preferably with the Homeless Management Information System (HMIS) or specialized data entry and reporting through a central database.


    Responsibilities:

    • Serve as the Agency's HMIS Administrator.
    • Communicate as needed with the Local HMIS System Administrator with the City of Asheville.
    • Develop and implement the agency's protocols for staff training of HMIS according to requirements set by the Michigan Coalition Against Homelessness (MCAH).
    • Meet regularly with Homeless and Housing Services staff to develop clear HMIS protocols, as well as universal and program specific protocols for data collection and data entry.
    • Ensure accuracy of data entry in HMIS.
    • Run monthly reports on data quality and Annual Performance Reports on all federally funded programs. Address any issues with the quality and accuracy of these reports.
    • Complete Annual Performance Reports for all U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development Continuum of Care grants.
    • Participate in the creation of customized reports to report on specific outcomes for other private and public funders.
    • Work with the Homeless and Housing Directors to coordinate reconciliation of computer needs/issues with the agency's contracted Information Technology support as associated with HMIS functionality.
    • Attend Homeless and Housing staff meetings to collect information and to share HMIS needs and updates.

    Requirements:

    • An understanding and empathy for those experiencing homelessness.
    • Demonstrated understanding and commitment to confidentiality.
    • Ability to communicate effectively in oral and written forms with clients, coworkers, supervisors, other service agencies and the community.
    • Ability to work independently and in a team environment. Must be able to take initiative, problem solve, and prioritize daily tasks.
    • Ability to anticipate and adhere to deadlines.
