    Chief Financial Officer, Community Nursing Services (CNS)

    CNS is one of the largest home health and hospice organizations in Utah. Non-profit and mission driven that includes a rich history spanning 96 years. CNS provides home health, hospice, pharmacy/infusion therapy, respiratory and immunization services. With a dedicated team of 500 employees, CNS generates approximately $60 million in revenue annually.


    The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) is a critically important member of the executive leadership team who will oversee, manage, and report on all financial and accounting activities including revenue cycle and management of foundation funds.

    The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of growth and development, demonstrating principled, ethical leadership throughout their career.


    Position Details:


    • Type:
    Full-time


    • Location:
    Salt Lake City, Utah. Preferred in person. A hybrid in-person and remote schedule can be considered.

    • Required Qualifications:
    • Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration, Accounting, Finance, or related field. A graduate degree is preferred.
    • 5-10 years of experience managing financial functions for a for-profit or non-profit corporation, with evidence of growth and increasing responsibilities.
    • Experience working at an executive level within the Healthcare Industry is preferred but not required.
    • Experience working at an executive level within the home care and hospice is preferred but not required.
    • Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects and priorities in a complex, fast-paced environment.
    • Proficient in current computer software programs including Word, Excel, google suite and SharePoint, among others.
    • Ability to quickly learn and use Enterprise Resource Planning applications as well as Electronic Medical Record applications designed for care delivered in the home.
    • Outstanding communication skills, both oral and written, with established presentation skills.
    • Excellent planning, prioritizing, accuracy, and organizational skills.
    • Eligible to work in the United States for any employer.

    Primary Job Duties:

    Financial Management & Reporting:

    • Maintain sound internal controls in accordance with GAO's Standards for Internal Control in the Federal Government and GAAP.
    • Attend all executive leadership and Board meetings, either in person or remotely.
    • Handle or manage all financial accounting functions, including:
    • Regular monthly financial statements to the Board and executive leadership team and other key managers.
    • Monthly budget reporting with explanations of significant variances to the Board and executive leadership team and other key managers.
    • Analyze and forecast revenues and expenses for optimal asset management.
    • Review and approve all cash disbursements (accounts payable) and reconcile all receivables (accounts receivable).
    • Oversee cash flow and management of financial assets, including liquid cash and investments as well as physical assets.

    Contract and Salary Management:

    • Review and collaborate on contracts and awards.
    • In partnership with HR leadership manage salary structure, table of organization, and identify issues to ensure accuracy, with awareness of performance periods and budgeted salary costs.

    Federal and Grant Management:

    • Maintain and update Federal Budget Expense Comparison spreadsheets to prevent overspending.
    • Notify Accounts Payable staff and Investigators of low budget amounts to prevent payment of expenses over allowed amounts.
    • Monthly reconciliation projects and or accounts to the General Ledger summary account.
    • Monthly reporting of project account details to executive leadership team.

    Audit and Compliance:

    • Coordinate year-end third party audits.
    • Assist with the preparation and submission of indirect cost rate proposals.
    • Prepare Workers Compensation annual audits.
    • Prepare 941 Reports to certify accounting program balances to payroll reports.
    • Prepare and submit annual 5500 audits for certification of 403(b) activity, participation, and eligibility.

    Supervision and Internal Control:

    • Supervise accounting, A/P and revenue cycle personnel.
    • Report significant internal control lapses and irregularities to the Board and regulatory bodies, as required by federal guidelines.
    • Conduct periodic, at least annual, evaluation of internal financial controls

    Supervisory Controls:
    The CFO reports directly to the President and CEO.


    Salary Range:
    Competitive and commensurate with experience.

    The salary range for this position takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to skill sets; experience and training; licensure and certifications; and other business and organizational needs.


    Physical Requirements:
    Must be able to occasionally lift, pull, and push a minimum of 25 lbs.

    Ability to stand, sit, squat, kneel, and stoop for extended periods.

    Regular use of fingers and hands for computer work.
