    Position Overview

    Be a part of a nonprofit organization that is dedicated to offering top-tier permanent housing to San Franciscans facing significant health challenges.

    As the Chief Financial Officer, you will oversee the financial management at the organization, establishing a new finance department and handling day-to-day operations, budgeting, and reporting.

    In addition, you will be collaborating with stakeholders, to build banking relationships and ensure financial efficiency for effective financial management and organizational sustainability.

    Responsibilities
    Lead the development, communication, and execution of comprehensive financial strategies
    Direct treasury operations, budgeting, audits, taxation, accounting, and grants and contracts management
    Formulate and enforce policies to accomplish organizational goals
    Provide strategic financial guidance to the Executive Director and Board, drawing insights from financial analysis, cost management, and revenue assessments
    Oversee short- and long-term budget planning in line with the organization's strategic direction; collaborate with department heads to establish and monitor budgets
    Design and implement fiscal policies and procedures, ensuring adherence to Generally Accepted Accounting Principles
    Proactively manage cash flow, forecasting, investments, and financing strategies
    Oversee the selection and implementation of appropriate accounting software
    Ensure compliance with regulatory tax filings and audit obligations
    Supervise a team of finance staff in their accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll and purchasing functions
    Collaborate with the Finance Committee on selecting and engaging audit firms and external financial advisors
    Coordinate with the fundraising team to ensure accurate and timely grant and contract applications and reporting
    Serve as trustee for the 401k plan, overseeing plan design, investment programs, and annual Form 5500 filing
    Foster positive relationships with primary funders
    Regularly produce and disseminate precise financial reports
    Qualifications
    CPA and/or Master's degree in business, Economics, Finance, Nonprofit Management or other related field preferred or equivalent 15 years' experience in finance
    8+ years' experience in nonprofit finance, with responsibilities spanning finance, accounting, budgeting, reporting, and audit management, including leadership roles
    Experience working directly with Board of Directors and Audit and Finance Committees
    Proven track record in developing and implementing financial policies and procedures, including expertise in government grants and contracts
    Proficiency in at least one nonprofit/fund accounting software; familiarity with Netsuite and/or Intacct is preferred
    5+ years of successful experience managing and/or supervision experience
    Demonstrated ability to cultivate strong internal partnerships within a team-oriented environment
    Capability to understand and manage complex regulatory requirements effectively
    Professional training may serve as a substitute for experience
    Alignment with the organization's mission and values, with a collaborative approach to teamwork
    Strong leadership skills with the ability to motivate and guide team members
    Results-driven mindset with exceptional organizational, planning, and attention to detail skills
    Outstanding analytical and problem-solving abilities, translating strategic visions into operational models
    Excellent verbal and written communication skills
    Proficiency in handling conflicting stakeholder needs, with expertise in facilitation and conflict resolution within team dynamics, supported by empathetic listening
    Critical thinking aptitude, adept at decision-making and assisting others in decision-making, with a knack for anticipating and resolving issues within established frameworks
    Ability to prioritize tasks within a fast-paced environment with competing demands, including crisis management skills and discerning emergencies from urgent matters
    Effective management of expectations and meeting deadlines punctually
    Strong communication skills tailored to diverse backgrounds, including individuals with active mental health issues, substance use disorders, histories of homelessness, and trauma
