- Builds, packages, distributes and deploys/installs or oversees the installation of applications to desktop environments.
- Assists in the testing of software to ensure proper operation and freedom from defects.
- Engineers, manages and maintains a large infrastructure of hardware and software (operating systems and applications) distributed over numerous user sites.
- Troubleshoots and resolves user applications issues and proactively anticipates and resolves ongoing or possible future problems.
- Analyzes and creates applications deployment and management strategies for PCs, tablets and mobile devices.
- Analyzes technology risks and security risks and notifies supervisor if warranted.
- Manages or oversees the management of systems upgrades and improvements via application of patches.
- Ensures user accessibility, stability and security in accordance with District policy standards.
- Creates, updates and maintains core documentation, including manuals for standard operating procedures, best practices or mitigation plans.
- Assigns, supervises and reviews work; ensures staff compliance with District policies and procedures including Personnel Rules and Administrative Procedures; completes performance reviews; addresses employee complaints and grievances; may recommend employment actions such as hiring, transfer, suspension, promotion or discharge.
- Monitors or tracks project milestones and deliverables.
- Participates in research, evaluation and implementation of prototypes of new products and services.
- Provides training to subordinates or users on-site.
- Provides after hours and weekend support when required.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Considerable knowledge of desktop operating systems, including software package development, configuration management, patch testing and networking.
- Considerable knowledge of desktop hardware including PCs, tablets, mobile devices and thin clients.
- Considerable knowledge of enterprise software used to deploy and manage operating systems, virtual desktops and applications.
- Considerable knowledge of risk assessment related to technology implementation and security.
- Skill in technical writing, documentation and script writing.
- Active listening skills.
- Ability to plan and supervise the work of subordinate technical and administrative staff.
- Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing.
- One year of service with the District as a Desktop Engineer, A/V Administrator or Computer Systems Administrator.
- Civil service status in one of the foregoing classifications.

Minimum Qualification Requirements
Graduation from a four-year accredited college or university majoring in information technology, computer science or a closely related field and six years of professional level experience managing and/or supporting desktop enterprise solutions.Substitution
Graduate study in the designated fields may be substituted for experience on a year-for-year basis to a maximum of two years. Full-time paid experience managing and/or supporting desktop enterprise solutions may be substituted for the required education on a year-for-year basis. A Microsoft MCITP, MCSE or VMware VCP certification related to desktop or client support may be substituted for one year of the required education or experience.Promotional Requirement
