Job DescriptionOptimus Health Care is a Federally Qualified Health Center with sites operating in Bridgeport, Stamford and Stratford, CT. We are the largest provider of primary health care services in Fairfield County, proudly serving all patients regardless of their ability to pay.
We are presently recruiting a Recovery Support Specialist for our behavioral health department in Bridgeport. This is a full-time, 40-hour work week with one late night a week. Working knowledge of Spanish is preferred.
POSITION SUMMARY
Provides peer support services for individuals and their families to effectively address the myriad of issues which those with substance abuse and mental health disorders require to support the recovery process by performing the following duties.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS & RESPONSIBILITIES
• Provides recovery support through self-directed, strength-based approach to care. Utilizing principles based on the Recovery Coach Ten Components of Recovery.
• Acts as a liaison between Optimus Health Care and Recovery Network of Programs (RNP) teams to increase access for clients who need medical and substance abuse treatment.
• Promotes recovery by linking individuals to recovery support activities and assist them in overcoming personal and environmental obstacles to recover. Serves as a professional guide and mentor for persons seeking recovery and their families.
• Maintains communications with community providers and builds a network of recovery support services to support program participant's attendance in organized, social sober activities.
• Recognizes the elements of client crisis, implements an immediate course of action (in consultation with supervisor) appropriate to the crisis and utilizes negative events to enhance overall treatment outcomes.
• Prepares agenda for supervision and utilizes supervision as needed to meet professional demands of job.
• Educates individuals & families by providing information on recovery supports within the community.
• Provides information and assertive linkages to services and resources with an emphasis on self-help groups, CCAR, recovery houses, sober events and programs, employment, and job services.
• Identifies the needs of clients that cannot be met by the counselor/organization, explains rationale for the referral to the client, and assists the client to utilize the support systems and community resources.
• Meets all documentation requirements of position and program.
• Assumes all other appropriate duties as deemed necessary by supervisor.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS
EDUCATION: Certification as a Recovery Support Specialist required.
EXPERIENCE:
• Certification as a Recovery Support Specialist required.
• Lived experience in stable recovery of substance use disorder and/or lived experience of HIV, incarceration, and/or homelessness.
• Established expertise and practices related to professional boundaries and ethics.
• Ability to establish and maintain cooperative professional relationships.
• Good communication skills.
• Ability to project a professional image.
• A valid Connecticut driver's license is required.
LANGUAGE SKILLS: Working knowledge of Spanish helpful.
