    Position Title:
    Family Support Specialist (FSS)

    Program:
    CREC - Head Start and Early Head Start


    General Purpose:


    Family Support Specialist is responsible for providing supervision and support to the Family Advocates, ERSEA Coordinator, and Administrative Assistants; and to oversee all content service delivery in the area of Family and Community Engagement.

    The parent, family and community engagement of the program begins with the recruitment/eligibility/selection process, and continues with the provision of supportive family services for all enrolled families in the Early Head Start and Head Start program.

    These duties are to be performed according to the Head Start Performance Standards and program policies and procedures.


    Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

    • Responsible for all data management, monitoring and reporting for the Family Services content area including all eligibility, recruitment, selection, enrollment, and attendance of students; and the family engagement, partnership and goal setting activities
    • Trains, supervises and evaluates Family Advocates and ERSEA Coordinator; assists with recruitment and hiring of new Family Advocates and Administrative Assistants.
    • Works with the Assistant Director of Program Services to develop and implement a recruitment, eligibility and selection plan for enrolling children; monitors enrollment to ensure the funded enrollment levels are maintained at all sites and that there is a waiting list to facilitate the filling of vacancies as they occur
    • Act as the liaison to all community partnerships related to family service needs, including the Head Start on Housing initiative which requires application processing and identification of rental options
    • Analyzes the causes of absenteeism, and when average daily attendance falls below 85%, activates an action/improvement plan in concert with center services staff.
    • Works in partnership with the Management Team to provide comprehensive services across all content areas including health, nutrition, and education.
    • Prepares reports as needed and assists in preparing the program for monitoring.
    • Other duties as assigned

    Qualifications:

    • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with a major in the field of Social Work/Human Services or Early Childhood, or a related field, preferred.
    • Two (2) years of supervisory experience required
    • Two (2) or more years of experience in a preschool program, Head Start or Early Head Start experience preferred
    • Must be familiar with community service area and have knowledge and cultural competence
    • Must be able to work the MS and Google suites
    • Experience in data management and data analysis preferred
    • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects with strict deadlines.
    • Ability to communicate, both oral and written, to individuals with diverse backgrounds
    • Ability to present and speak in public; fully bilingual (English/Spanish) highly preferred
    • Ability to foster positive relationships with families, staff and community
    • Ability to coordinate projects, work independently and follow through with project completion

    Special Requirements:

    • Must have reliable transportation and possess a valid Driver's License in good standing with DMV required, current liability insurance.

    Working Conditions:


    Willingness and ability to travel to all center locations and able to work a flexible schedule including evenings and occasional weekends.
