    This recruitment will be used to fill a Science educator position with the�Western Maryland Children Center. Candidates with secondary education Conditional, Standard Professional, Advance Professional, Advance Professional +30, or Advance Professional +60 Certifications in all endorsement areas are welcome to apply.\r

    Main Purpose of Job

    1. Foster a safe, inclusive, and supportive classroom environment where youth feel valued, respected, and motivated to learn.\r
    2. Design and deliver engaging lesson plans that cater to the unique needs, learning styles, and abilities of youth, promoting academic growth and personal development.\r
    3. Employ a variety of teaching strategies, methodologies, and technologies to enhance student engagement and facilitate effective learning experiences.\r
    4. Assess student progress regularly through formative and summative assessments, providing constructive feedback and individualized support to promote academic success.\r
    5. Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including social workers, counselors, and administrators, to develop holistic plans for student success and address individual challenges effectively.\r
    6. Utilize restorative practices and conflict resolution techniques to foster positive relationships among students and encourage a sense of accountability and responsibility.\r
    7. Act as a mentor and positive role model, demonstrating empathy, patience, and understanding while promoting positive behavior and responsible decision-making.\r
    8. Communicate regularly and effectively with students' families or guardians, keeping them informed about academic progress, behavior, and any concerns that may arise.\r
    9. Stay updated with the latest educational research, best practices, and interventions for working with youth, continually refining teaching strategies and approaches.\r
    10. Participate in professional development opportunities, workshops, and training sessions to enhance teaching skills and maintain a high level of professional competence.\r

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

    Education:�� Possession of appropriate educational credentials as determined by the Maryland State Board of Education. \r
    Experience: None. \r

    SELECTIVE QUALIFICATIONS

    Must possess a MSDE Secondary Education Educators Certification in the endorsement�area of Science.\r

    DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

    1. One year of teaching experiences to include internship.\r

    LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

    Teachers in State-operated school programs are required to acquire and maintain certification to teach in the State of Maryland per Education Article, Section 6-101 of the Annotated Code of Maryland�and Code of Maryland Regulations (COMAR) 13A B(2). Applicants recommended for appointment will be required to complete an Authorization and Verification of Credentials.     Additional educational credits beyond the Advanced Professional Certificate must meet the following criteria established by the Institutional Educators Pay Plan Committee in order to qualify for application toward the APC plus 30�level:\r

    Credits must be beyond the education level held at the time the educational requirements for the Advanced Professional Certificate were met and must either relate to the current job responsibilities or be part of an employer approved program of study.\r
    �\r
    Credits mean semester hours from a regionally accredited college or university, or Maryland State Department of Education approved workshops.\r
    �\r
    No more than one half of any additional credits applied to these criteria may be earned through Maryland Department of Education approved workshops\r

    SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

    Employees in this classification are subject to Substance Abuse Testing in accordance with Code of Maryland Regulation , Testing for Illegal Use of Drugs. Applicants must consent to State Police and Child Protective Services (CPS) Investigations/Background Checks as a routine procedure for all employees required to work in State Juvenile Services Facilities.\r

    Proof of eligibility to work in compliance with the Immigration Reform and Control Act is required. If, once employed, it is determined that the incumbent does not qualify for at least a Conditional Certificate, the incumbent's employment will be terminated. Also, failure to obtain and maintain the appropriate Maryland Teaching Certificate will be the basis for termination of employment.\r
