The Opportunity:
The EL TA will provide instruction and support for English learners while they are learning with classroom teachers.

The EL TA will regularly collaborate with the EL teacher, conduct one-on-one tutoring for eligible EL scholars, provide instructional support in an appropriate school location designated for providing EL scholar support, and provide such instructional services to scholars under the direct supervision of a certified classroom teacher, the EL teacher, and/or the EL Regional Manager.

The Details


Key Deliverables:

  • Assist certified teachers with implementation of differentiation plans for small groups of EL scholars in the classroom
  • Provide instruction and support for classroom teachers and/ or oneonone tutoring for eligible EL scholars
  • Provide instructional support in an area designated for this purpose
  • Create a schedule of weekly activities and share it with the principal, EL teacher, and classroom teachers.
  • Support parents of EL scholars with interpretation/translation as needed.
  • Contribute feedback and data on scholar progress, behavior, and performance
  • Proactively provide scholars tools in class to achieve academic and language development success to be outlined by the EL Division and the EL Teacher in consultation with the building principal.
  • Work in collaboration with classroom teachers, EL teachers, and administrators (building and national team).
  • Parent communication per the directive of administrator or teacher
  • Follow directives from administrators, the EL Teacher, and the EL Division
  • Set high expectations for scholars by being consistent
  • Must be present at work
  • Other duties as assigned

Experience and Education Requirements:

  • High school diploma or its equivalent
  • Prior experience with small group instruction preferred
  • Experience supporting second language learners
  • Analytical ability to plan individual and group activities that stimulate growth in scholars
  • Preferred: Bilingual in Spanish/English
  • Focus on advocacy for EL scholars and their families
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Interpersonal skills necessary to establish and maintain effective relationships with scholars, parents/guardians, and other staff members
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills

The Campus:
Hope Community PCS - Tolson is a public charter school in Washington, D.C. that was founded in 2006 and recently joined the PLA network in 2022.

We serve about 250 scholars from PK - 8th grade with a school population that is reflective of the strength and diversity of the community in which we are privileged to serve.
