Job Overview

To assist teachers and assistant teachers in providing an age appropriate child development program and activities by:

  • Creating and maintaining a safe and nurturing environment for children
  • Complying with statutory, regulatory, licensing and accreditation requirements
  • Conducting and planning programs and activities that implement an emergent curriculum
  • Developing and maintaining a relationship with parents that meets an individual child's needs
Work Interactions and Work Mode Designation


On-Call Assistant Teachers assist full time teaching staff in providing an age appropriate child development program and activities by creating and maintaining a safe and nurturing environment for children; complying with statutory, regulatory, licensing, accreditation requirements; conducting and planning programs and activities that implement an emergent curriculum; and performing other duties as assigned.

The ability to interact with staff, families and children of Hoya Kids is necessary for the smooth operations of the Center.

This position reports to the Director of Hoya Kids Learning Center. All childcare center staff and Georgetown University student assistants work with this position and report to the Director.

This position has been designated as On-Campus. Please note that work mode designations are regularly reviewed in order to meet the evolving needs of the University. Such review may necessitate a change to a position's mode of work designation.

Requirements and Qualifications

Minimum academic level required is a high school diploma and practical experience working with children.

Practical experience (years and type required):

  • Interest in working with young children is required.
  • Must have strong relationship and communication skills.
  • Some college credits in Early Childhood Education (CDA, Associates Degree accepted) are preferred.
CPR and First Aid are also desired.
