    Description

    The Associate Director, Individual Giving will work with the Senior Director, Strategic Initiatives and Partnerships to develop and implement strategic plans for annual giving, activation of individual members and prospective members within the Council's database, as well as stewardship and recruitment for the Council's individual membership program.

    The Associate Director will help organize, manage, and conduct recruitment, outreach, and engagement with individuals; steward membership relationships, and execute event deliverables for members. In addition to working with the Senior Director, the employee will also work with other team members and with counterparts throughout the Council.

    A successful candidate will have an entrepreneurial spirit, communicate effectively, and enjoy the complexity of building new and rapidly growing programs. The candidate should preferably possess a strong understanding of donor relations, project management, event production, fundraising, and database management through professional experience and academic work. The position requires a strong record of organization, excellent administrative and communication skills, attention to detail, and a proven aptitude to manage day- to-day logistical aspects of the department.

    This position is based at our Washington, DC, headquarters on a hybrid schedule. Pay is commensurate with experience, education, and organizational equity, with offers starting at $65,000. Applications submitted by April 26, 2024, will be prioritized for consideration.

    Responsibilities

    • Manage all aspects of the Council's individual membership program, ensuring a positive experience that generates renewals and deepens relationships between members and the Council.
    • Develop innovative quarterly events for members working closely with the Council's engagement team, including invitation sending, RSVP tracking, speaker invitations, agenda creation, and post-event follow-up.
    • Develop and implement comprehensive fundraising strategies to increase philanthropic support from individuals.
    • Draft fundraising appeals and other membership campaign materials and collateral tone, content, and accuracy to ensure consistency from initial draft to final deployment.
    • Create specific fundraising plans for member acquisition, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship throughout the year.
    • Conduct prospect research, including developing and executing strategies to recruit and orient new members.
    • Assist with donor stewardship and conducts introductory calls with new donors and applies knowledge to strategically match donor interests with Council's work.
    • Track individual membership donations, solicitation stages, deliverables, and metrics, including follow-up correspondence, pledge reminders, and invoices to donors.
    • Oversee and manage individual membership program budget track revenue received from dues, donations, and other membership transactions; report on membership revenue trends to Senior Director and CFO.
    • Research, recommend, and implement new policies and initiatives to ensure budget goals are met.
    • Assist management with regular reviews of membership dues structure and benefits.
    • Update constituent records prior to email communications, including campaign letters, invitations, quarterly newsletters, etc.
    • Assist with database adjustments, maintenance, and clean-up projects to improve data integrity and database performance.
    • Other duties as assigned.

    Qualifications

    • Bachelor's Degree in relevant subject matter.
    • 3-4 years in a fundraising and events management environment, or comparable experience.
    • Experience managing an individual membership program, preferred.
    • Experience planning and executing in person, hybrid, and virtual events.
    • Experience with a CRM, Salesforce strongly preferred.
    • Experience working with an email marketing system and with mass e-mail membership appeals preferred.
    • Demonstrated initiative and ability to work well with a team in a dynamic environment and ability to work independently and proactively.
    • Proactive, self-starter that understands the importance of creating positive, working relationships with colleagues and external constituents.
    • Highly organized, with ability to work in an ever-changing environment and on multiple projects simultaneously while maintaining a high-level attention to detail.
    • Strong written and verbal communications skills.
    • Advanced computer skills using MS Office products, including Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, and SharePoint, and ability to quickly learn new software and platforms.
    • Must be available to work evenings and weekends as required.
    • Commitment to the Atlantic Council mission and interest in international affairs.
