    The Department of Probation is recruiting one (1) District Supervisor to function as the Director of Facilities and Fleet Operations under the auspices of the Administration Division.

    With latitude for independent judgment and initiative who will, the Director will:


    • Oversee the Facilities Unit to ensure that the approximately 21 leased and/or city owned locations are well maintained as well as ensuring programmatic space needs are met at each site to reduce/eliminate the risk of facing issues of noncompliance with OSHA along with possible accompanying OSHA fines.
    • Ensure that the locations providing custodians and maintenance service provides regular interior and exterior cleaning, as well as maintenance services. Services range from trash pickup and restroom cleaning to pest control, recycling, and minor repairs.
    • Collaborate and liaise with building managers in each location to ensure they maintain, repair, and operate all of its building system equipment, including heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC), plumbing, fire suppression, and generators.
    • Work with DCAS engineers to ensure DCAS owned building systems are running efficiently and effectively and fire and life safety services for its buildings are adhered to for maintaining fire alarm systems and devices, equipment, and personnel. While also ensuring buildings comply with all laws and code requirements.
    • Manage the space and office layouts, space allocations, on-going furniture modifications and procurement. Support analysis of existing and proposed workspace utilization, move planning and project management.
    • Support furniture procurement and logistics relating to delivery and installation.
    • Oversees contractors who perform maintenance and repairs for its buildings as it may relate to systems, equipment, doors, windows, and roofs select electrical, plumbing, painting, and flooring services.
    • Manage a team of skilled laborers who provide in-house maintenance, repair, and emergency work for systems and equipment. Perform small-scale renovations and execute specialty work.
    • Ensure energy efficiency as possible, including lighting, and consumption.
    • Assist with establishing internal unit goals, policies, creating new operating instruction, systems, and methods.
    • Implement strategies to improve efficiency of internal procedures by analyzing and existing plans to ensure they are aligned with the overall goals of the Agency such as facilities planning.
    • Monitor and evaluate work/job performance of subordinate staff. Track time and leave and staff's compliance.
    • Build strong relationships with key stakeholders, stay up to date with industry trends and best practices, and provide actionable insights that support decision-making.
    • Respond to difficult and sensitive programmatic staff inquiries and complaints and assists with resolutions and alternative recommendations.
    • Act on behalf of the executive staff when s/he is unavailable.
    Minimum Qualifications


    • Six years of recent satisfactory experience in a field of construction of public
    improvements or building construction, including two years of supervisory

    experience; or


    • A satisfactory equivalent combination of education and experience.
    Preferred Skills


    • Knowledge of electrical, plumbing, HVAC, carpentry, and other mechanical systems typically found in buildings., - Knowledge of fire alarm protocols, space analysis and knowledge of regulatory agencies. - Ability to manage maintenance staff, prioritize tasks, and delegate responsibilities effectively. - Proficiency in overseeing renovation projects, scheduling maintenance work, and ensuring on-time completion. - Experience with budget preparation and control, as well as the ability to make cost-effective decisions. - Familiarity with local, state, and federal building codes, Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) regulations, and other compliance requirements. - Experience with creating and implementing emergency procedures and protocols. - Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office suite. - Task and results oriented. - Ability to multitask efficiently and prioritize assignments and projects.

    Residency Requirement

    New York City residency is generally required within 90 days of appointment.

    However, City Employees in certain titles who have worked for the City for 2 continuous years may also be eligible to reside in Nassau, Suffolk, Putnam, Westchester, Rockland, or Orange County.
