Elevator Modernization Mechanic
As a Class "A" Elevator Modernization Mechanic, the primary responsibility is to ensure the safe and efficient installation of elevators and other lifting equipment.
This entails proficiency in close-tolerance mechanical work on intricate control circuits and the ability to diagnose and repair complex mechanical and electrical issues.
Regular inspections ensure equipment functions correctly and necessary repairs, adjustments, or part replacements are accurately made to complete repairs. Tasks include repairing worms, gears, wiring, connecting and testing controllers, and other auxiliary electrical equipment. Machine babbitting, thrust renewals, motor and controller removal, and replacement are performed as needed. Accurate records of all repairs are maintained, and excellent customer service is provided to building owners and occupants.Extensive knowledge of elevator mechanics and electrical systems is essential, along with the ability to install, repair, and maintain elevators and other lifting equipment.
Adherence to safety protocols and regulations is mandatory, and the ability to diagnose faulty operations and determine the source of failures and shutdowns is crucial.
In addition to these responsibilities, other duties may be assigned as needed.Qualifications
As an Elevator Mechanic, you must have a high school diploma or equivalent and hold a valid NYS & NYC Mechanics License.
Completion of an apprenticeship program or technical school training in elevator repair is required, along with a minimum of five years of experience in elevator repair and installation.
You should have knowledge of electrical and mechanical systems, safety regulations, and building codes, as well as the ability to read and understand schematics.
Experience working on hydraulic elevators is essential, and excellent communication and customer service skills are a must. Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills are also important, along with a valid driver's license.
In terms of the work environment and hazards, Elevator Mechanics work in various building types, including commercial, residential, and industrial settings.
There may be exposure to heights, confined spaces, and loud noises, as well as potential exposure to hazardous materials or conditions such as electrical shock, falls, and exposure to hazardous chemicals.
Special physical demands include the ability to lift heavy objects and equipment up to fifty pounds (50 lbs) or more, climb ladders, and work in confined spaces.
Elevator Mechanics have moderate contact with regulatory agencies, customers, contractors, and management.
