- Leads, mentors, and coaches nurses at all levels in their understanding and practical application of standards for nursing excellence.
- Acts as a knowledge expert and resource that interprets and integrates the Magnet standards into nursing practice.
- Promotes evidence-based practice and research in nursing practice and educational processes.
- Coordinates and supports nursing professional development activities, including certification initiatives and related activities; innovation and EBP initiatives.
- Seeks out grant, research, and program funding.
- Participates in the development and implementation of the nursing care delivery model and clinical practice activities which advance nursing services toward national recognition for quality outcomes, RN, and patient satisfaction.
- Leads and oversees SL Councils including professional development of council chairs, strategic planning of councils, and coordination activities.
- Functions as a liaison to all hospital departments and as a consultative resource for administration, nursing, non-nursing caregivers, physicians, and community regarding shared leadership activities.
- Leads hospital-based Magnet Steering committee and participates as a member of the System Magnet Steering Committee.
- Promotes nursing excellence, recognition, and empowerment through shared decision making and professional development of nurses.
- Communicates to senior leadership, managers, and staff any changes and updates regarding the Magnet program.
- Works in collaboration with Office of Patient Experience to collect, correlate, analyze and generate reports for nursing sensitive indicators, assisting in analysis and interpretation of the National Database of Nursing Quality Indicators (NDNQI) for patient outcomes and nurse satisfaction.
- Leads and oversees nursing quality improvement initiatives including analyzing data, identifying trends, and using quality improvement methodologies to act on findings and formulate plans for continued evaluation, improvement, and integration into evidence based clinical practice
- Promotes visibility of nursing initiatives at local, state, and national levels through publications and presentations to key audiences.
- Fosters collaborative interdisciplinary relationships within nursing services.
- Fosters collaborative relationships with physicians to support a collegial and interdisciplinary patient care environment.
- Coordinates the preparation, editing, and publication of the Magnet document and oversees facility preparation for Magnet related site visits.
- Prepares an operating budget, which estimates various expenditures. Monitors and reports the status of the budget to Nurse Administrator monthly.
- Attends local, regional, and national Magnet-related conferences and meetings.
- Serves as a resource to the community and participates in planning local Magnet-related conferences.

The Nurse Excellence Director provides leadership and oversight to the planning, integration, implementation, and evaluation of initiatives and programs to drive nursing excellence.
This includes initiatives associated with Magnet program forces, nursing excellence indicators, and any other work associated with leading nursing excellence.
The Nurse Excellence Director assumes primary responsibility for ensuring integration of nursing professional standards into the nursing and organizational infrastructure.
This position ensures that the organization milieu reflects the internalization of the five components of Magnet which address Transformational Leadership, Structural Empowerment, Exemplary Professional Practice, New Knowledge Innovations, and Improvements.
The Nurse Excellence Director promotes excellence in patient care services as evidenced by Empirical Outcomes.Scope
This position will report directly to the Hospital Nurse Administrator.
Job Essentials
Master's degree from an accredited university required. Either the Bachelor's or Master's degree must be in Nursing. Degree will be verified.
RN license in the state of practice.
Five years of clinical nursing experience in an acute care setting.
* and -Two years of management experience.
* and -Strong verbal and written communication skills.
* and -Strong organizational skills, with the ability to work both independently and as an effective team member.
* and -Experience using word processing, spreadsheet, database, internet, e-mail, and scheduling applications.
* and -Experience interacting in a professional manner with administration, medical staff, and hospital personnel.
Preferred Qualifications
Three years of management experience.
* and -Experience facilitating organizational Magnet initiatives.
* and -Knowledge of regulatory processes.
* and -Statistical and data management skills.
* and -Board certification in a nursing specialty.
Physical Requirements:
Interact with others requiring caregiver to verbally communicate as well as hear and understand spoken information.
* and -Operate computers, telephones, office equipment, and manipulate paper requiring the ability to move fingers and hands.
* and -See and read computer monitors and documents.
* and -Remain sitting or standing for long periods of time to perform work on a computer, telephone, or other equipment.
* and -Ability to travel to other locations.
