    Position Summary


    Arts & Science is seeking a talented Associate Director, Continuing Education to join the Prison Education program. This individual will serve as a collaborative member of the NYU Prison Education Program (PEP) team.

    Manage academic advising and degree transition support programming for approximately 50 incarcerated students at Wallkill Correctional Facility (C.F.), as well as 30+ students continuing their education post-incarceration at NYUs Washington Square campus.

    Lead the development and implementation of degree completion pathways from the Associate of Arts degree at Wallkill C.F. to Bachelor of Arts coursework within the prison, and into partner BA degree programs on the main NYU campus.

    Work closely with Bridge Program Coordinator to develop supported and sustainable continuing education plans and network of services for individual students, including those transferring to programs outside NYU.

    Coordinate on-going student transfers into degree programs on main campus upon release and manage annual PEP fellowship selection process at NYU Washington Square.

    Establish and maintain transfer processes with partner degree programs across the University. Support the annual set up of PEP student scholarship and living stipends with Financial Aid.

    Maintain academic records for transitioning students, and support their onboarding and academic progress through on-going advising, liaising with faculty and other academic advisors, and ensuring student completion of financial aid and registration requirements.

    Coordinate project-based work including continuing education workshops within the prison, modular summer term curriculum for incoming cohorts on the main campus, and holistic student-centered programming throughout the academic year.

    Qualifications



    Required Education:Master's Degree

    Required Experience:
    5+ years of demonstrated experience in higher education or non-profit administration/operations. Strong written skills with an attention to detail and ability to plan ahead. Passionate about educational access for currently and formerly incarcerated students. Experience with student / member / client-centered one-on-one advising, coaching, and/or mentorship. Able to be flexible, problem-solve under pressure, and find creative solutions. Must be able to maintain organized communications, student records, and administrative systems operations.


    Preferred Experience:

    Experience working with justice-impacted people and critical awareness of mass incarceration and racial disparities, and ability to strategize with colleagues on navigating the criminal legal system to the benefit of students. Experience in higher education administration, including through academic advising, student services, financial aid and/or classroom teaching.


    Required Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:

    Willingness to travel (car or train) 2 hours north of NYU campus in Manhattan to the Correctional Facility at least once per month year-round for in person advising and events. If driving, valid drivers license with clear driving record is required. Self-starter, and a collaborative team player with positive relationship building skills. Ability to develop new initiatives and find innovative solutions to complex student / member / client needs within a higher education institution or other organization setting. Passionate about supporting student wellbeing and success, and the broader goals of educational justice. Must be able to meet strict deadlines and maintain consistent time-sensitive communications. Excellent knowledge of administration software such as Microsoft Office and Google Suite. Willingness to learn and utilize University online learning management systems and databases, including transcript records, course registration platforms, and student success digital tools. Ability to work in PEPs office on Washington Square campus. Ability to comply with correctional facility requirements as a cleared Department of Corrections volunteer, and work within a prison including being without a phone or smart technology while working on-site.


    Preferred Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:

    Knowledge of the social, economic, and political barriers faced by justice-impacted people pursuing self-determined goals including higher education.

    Additional Information

    In compliance with NYC's Pay Transparency Act, the annual base salary range for this position is USD $70,000.00 to USD $80, New York University considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, as well as, market and organizational considerations when extending an offer.

    This pay range represents base pay only and excludes any additional items such as incentives, bonuses, clinical compensation, or other items.
