    Job Summary

    The Unified Communication and Collaboration Director sets and leads the university's digital work productivity experience. Leads the strategy, architecture, design, and management of enterprise communication and collaboration technologies and services across the university. Delivers innovative, best-in-class technology, tools, and service designs to enhance teaching, healthcare, research, operational reliability, and productivity for a diverse range of university stakeholders who use collaboration and communication tools and general-use, IT-managed learning spaces and conference rooms as part of achieving mission goals. Establishes governance for unified communication and collaboration technologies through the implementation of standards, procedures, and quality measures. Provides direct and accountable leadership to ensure security best practices and compliance with university policies are consistently achieved. As part of the senior IT leadership team, models and cultivates culture, values, and behaviors.

    Department Description

    This role is the senior leader of the Unified Communication and Collaboration organization and reports to the Vice President of Infrastructure Services. The unified communication and collaboration organization is a critical part of Infrastructure Services and the UCSF Information Technology organization. The team provides essential and emergency communication and collaboration IT services supporting UCSF's healthcare, education, and research missions

    Required Qualifications

    • Bachelor's degree in a related area and/or equivalent experience/training.
    • Typically 8-10 years of experience managing an information technology organization.
    • Extensive experience managing technical staff.
    • Strong leadership and staff development skills.
    • Demonstrable experience building and managing successful projects and technical teams.
    • Extensive or advanced knowledge of the subject area sufficient for strategic planning, technology assessment, and direction.
    • Experienced in leading change management activities and managing their impact across multiple units or departments.
    • Knowledge of security best practices as well as encryption.
    • Uses and applies advanced Information Technology principles, theories, and concepts to manage and provide solutions to more complex and multi-dimensional problems.
    • Requires an in-depth knowledge of the applications programming development function and a broad knowledge of the IT organization.
    • Requires the ability to gather, organize, and analyze data in the completion of diverse functional assignments.
    • Is able to resolve issues using established parameters and own judgment.
    • Experience in the management of ongoing technology infrastructure acquisition and expansion, including the identification and integration of suitable emerging technologies.
    • Thorough knowledge of technical concepts and basic operating principles of data communications, computer hardware, vendor IT products, and software.
    • Ability to understand the process involved in adapting, integrating, and modifying existing programs or vendor-supplied products for use within a large and complex technical environment.
    • Excellent oral and written communication skills, including the ability to effectively present technical topics to large groups with potentially varied levels of technical sophistication.

    Preferred Qualifications

    • Advanced degree preferred.
