    Position Description

    The Major Gifts Officer is responsible for individual donations to GMHC. Cultivate and retain current donors, re-engage lapsed donors and prospect for new donors.

    Essential Job Functions

    The following duties are mandatory requirements of the job:

    • Oversee and manage all aspects of the major gifts program, supervising annual gifts. Prepare written materials, including correspondence, solicitation materials, acknowledgements, and regular communications as part of the cultivation and stewardship program. Prepare marketing materials, including brochures, ads, and social media blurbs.
    • Establish and maintain a donor cultivation cycle and gift stewardship program to ensure that new major donors are developed, have opportunities to increase their level of support annually, and enjoy a close relationship with the agency.
    • Manage numerous components of the major gift solicitation process including identification, research, follow up, updating of individual files and in the database.
    • Write monthly solicitation and acknowledgment letters. Make regular phone calls to donors.
    • Along with leadership and the Senior Director of Individual
    • Giving, build a strategy for increasing revenue, bringing new donors to the agency and for meeting with current donors on a regular basis.
    • Process and keep track of bequests and estates.

    Other Responsibilities

    • The following duties are to be performed as assigned by the supervisor:
    • Assist at Special Events to ensure donor guest lists are accurate, communication to donors is relevant.
    • Work with colleagues throughout the agency to raise awareness of GMHC programs and services.
    • Maintain information on donors and interactions with Salesforce database.
    • Assists Senior Director of Individual Giving in analysis and explanation of development performance by providing statistics, and trends in regard to giving.
    • Prepare and maintain regular donor reports for Development team and be able to brief team on donor standing.
    • Supervise volunteers as needed for Special Events and AIDS Walk.
    • Occasionally requires evening or weekend work to attend or assist in Special Events when donors are present.
    • Performs other duties as needed.

    Education and Certification

    • Bachelors Degree in related fields.
    • Minimum of 5-7 years of Development and Major Gifts experience.

    Special Skills and Knowledge

    In addition to the above-listed job responsibilities and educational requirements, the ideal candidate for this position possess the following:

    • Experience with Salesforce or other fundraising databases.
    • Experience in speaking with donors on the phone and in-person.
    • Strong Microsoft Office and Outlook skills.
    • Familiarity with social media networks.
    • Ability to prioritize, multi-task and perform under pressure.
    • Strong organizational skills and experience interacting with
    • donors.
    • Excellent personal and written communication.
    • Passion for the organization mission.
